Oakleaf Town Center

Oakleaf Town Center will be located on the corner of Argyle Forest Blvd and Old Middleburg Road.  OakLeaf Town Center will be an open-air shopping center designed to enhance the lifestyle of OakLeaf Plantation residents and the surrounding areas. OakLeaf Town Center will be a shopping and gathering destination offering 860,000 square feet of retailers, must-have services and an array of restaurants and eateries. Lush landscaping and wide comfortable side walks will make the town center a pleasant place to shop and dine and from the main street to regional and community shopping, there will be something to compliment all lifestyles and ages. The high-quality, architectural design of OakLeaf Town Center will be attractive and in keeping with the theme of OakLeaf Plantation to offer a seamless look and feel in the community.

With Target opening Today (March 11, 2007), much of the "bones" of Oakleaf Town Center are starting to take place.  Roads are in,  parkinglots paved and streetlights are working.  So now the question on everyones mind is "What other stores are going to be in Oakleaf Town Center?"  Well, the official verdict on that isn't in yet, but the rumors state that their will be a BestBuy, a Lowes, and a major pet supplier so far.

Oakleaf Plantation has become one of the hottest destinations in North East Florida.  With over 6,400 acres of property, two multi-million dollar athletic centers, and now Oakleaf Town Center taking shape.....Oakleaf is definatly the best place to be.

I also heard that they are going to bring in a movie theater too! That will be great cause they only other one we have is orange park mall . However they ar also doing  a new mcdonalds and I don't think thats the best move because there is one right there on cheswick oak about 1 mile away ? They should do a taco bell or arbys  or sonice something that is not out this way .

I also got word of the movie theater but I am sceptical due to the size of the building it would take. It may be a few phases away on  a new chunk of land.  However, Petsmart has just raised their Coming Soon banner, and Chilis is about a week from opening!

It's nice to see that everyone is as excited as I am. I love the fact that I can drive less than a mile and all of this is at my fingertips. I'm very anxious to know what else is going in. Has anyone been able to confirm Panera or the movie theater? I have a friend who said she hear Maggiano's may be coming in. I went on their website and it seems Chili's is a part of the same company so the Maggiano's thing may be out. I do agree that we need some good dining in our area. Or maybe even a wine bar, a place to drink some wine and hang out.

I as well am greatly looking forward to some more things opening!  Unfortunatly we are not yet quite sure how it will compare to St Johns Towncenter. For certain there will not be things like newest stores in SJTC.....but New York and Co. has released that they will be putting in a boutique shop. A step in the right direction as far as shopping mall stores go.

We can only hope.  But, it seems like the local city planners are content keeping us "country".  They don't seem to mind collecting the taxes on our property, however.  We need more vision in our planners.  We need more respect as people who like the finer things.  Take Middleburg for example, unless it's fast food, car parts, used cars, or gas stations we can't get a real establishment.

NY & Co., Nine West and Panera.  Oh wow I'm so excited.  We do need some high end stores in our area.  I"ve recently moved from Orlando and just don't understand the way things are done around here.  Of course I moved because I'm getting more for my money and with that I have to have some patience, but seriously we need some good stuff out here.  I'm so glad I found this blog.  :-)

Well, It is a lot different here than in Orlando. Jacksonville is basically a really big small city. Luckily as far as the whole city goes there are good stores and restaurants in St Johns Town Cenger like Juicy(coming soon), Coach, Burberry, etc. And as much as I'd like to have them here by Oakleaf, there is simply not enough business for them to open two stores. Sad but true.

Needless to say though, there will be many more stores to come. The buildings that are up now will already hold more than the stores listed. More should be released shortly! If anyone hears anything be sure to post it!

I'm not asking for an exact replica of the St. John's Towncenter, but it seems to me that this is nothing more than a '2nd rate' Towncenter.  Yes, we have a SuperTarget, Home Depot, and Pet Smart, but Circuit City instead of Best Buy?  Office Max instead of Office Depot?  Hard to use the argument of "there's already another store nearby" for each, when a Home Depot was just recently built several miles away down Brannen Field Road.  So why not a Lowe's instead?  No Cheesecake Factory?  Guess we'll still have to drive 30+ minutes to enjoy their food.  We were really looking forward to not having to drive great lengths anymore for some of these things (or at least, not having to drive to Orange Park).

And the layout itself is rather disappointing.  The nice thing about St. John's is that you can park and still hit up numerous fashonable stores all in one long enjoyable row (now made even longer with the new addition).  This, plus the congregation of their top-level restaurants (Cheesecake Fact., Maggiano's, PF Chang's, and even Ted's) allows for a very convenient 'gathering spot' for people.  Instead, it seems that the Oaf Leaf design has pockets of stores that will require driving to each one, or at least walking through parking lots to access them.

I seem to recall all the excitement about how this Towncenter was supposed to be larger than St. John's, with equal-quality stores.  But I don't see it.  I'm happy that some of these stores are coming, but there's still a lot to be desired.  Sadly, there's no "Phase II" on the way.

Seriosuly do we want a Movie Theater? Has anyone been over to the AMC in Orange park and see all of the loitering it creates. Parents just drop off the kids there and they hang out and disturb people all night!  We do not need to bring an influx of people in from Blanding/103rd/Wilson/Normandy and creat so much traffic and potential increased crime for sure!

I would love a movie theatre but I get your point.  I have kids and we love to go to the movies, I think OP AMC is looking run down.  I think we are all looking for convenience and also to keep our community safe and clean.  I also heard that this was going to be the largest mall in north florida.  Where I"m happy that things are finally happening, I too feel disappointed in the quality of vendors that are coming in.

I am NOT impressed with the "Oakleaf Town Center" at all. Why is Home Depot one of the anchor stores for this mall? That just goes to show how someone feels about what the people purchase in this area. They would never even DREAM about anchoring or even placing a Home Depot at the SJTC. Oh yeah, and what is the deal with OTC getting a FASHION BUG? Who shops at FASHION BUG? Are you kidding me. That is seriously disrespectful!!!

Let's examine the complaints about why this store and not that store at OTC. It's a simple matter of demographics. Where SJTC caters to the affluence of the beaches and the southside, there simply isn't that kind of clent base at Oakleaf. OTC isn't just for Argyle and Oakleaf Plantation folks. Consider the proximity to Middleburg, Baldwin, Macclenny, etc. It's a fine line balancing the tastes of the neuvo rich, the middle class and the trailer park. Let's just all be grateful that there will be enough variety to keep us from having to brave Blanding and the Buckman 500.

Just to let you all know.. there will be a new franchise concept, Hurricane Grill and Wings coming to OTC as well, just across from Panera.  Hurricane's is new to Jacksonville, with only two stores, one in St Johns and one just north of the Super Target on 17 by NAS Jax.  Please visit the website and check out our concept.. we are very different from a Dick's or Fast Boys. We are island themed and have lots of healthy options in addition to really great wings.  www.hurricanewings.com   We should be open in the next six months, inthe meantime, you all should check us out at 5907 Roosevelt Blvd!  See you soon

Does anybody out there know what else will be going up around the new Argyle Beall's store?? There's an aweful lot of dead space around the store, oh, and is anything ever gonna pop up directly in front of the Argyle Publix parking lot?? That piece of land has been empty forever. It would be an excellent location for a good restuarant. It's nice to hear "HURRICANE WINGS" is coming in at OTC. Gators Dockside gets boring after awhile.

Wow this is such great news. I am a homeowner in Oakleaf and left to go overseas. After googling about the OTC that was supposed to be started prior to my departure, I am happy that new stores are up and running. I didn't even get to enjoy the new Target because I left before it opened. I'm so excited and I can't want to get back to Jax. This blog is very useful, thanks. Any new updates on the construction around the area? Exactly what stores/restaurants are open for business? It sounds like Home Depot is already open, is that right?

Home Depot has been open since around 10/07, along with Kohl's. Bells is open across the street. Restaurants open include Chili's, McDonald's, Pizza Hut/Wing Depot, Panda Express, Pembrooke Chocholate. The Hess gas station/car wash looks to be opening sometime in the next week or so. Office Max is now open, and Circuit City and PetsMart should both be open in a few weeks. Matress Giant, AT&T, Famous Footwear, and 9 West are open. There are lots of other stores under construction in the lifestyle and power center area, which should be coming online over the summer. The area will look completely different when you get back from overseas.

They have their spot, but the time for the other area hospitals to appeal is not up yet. Last I heard, no hospital was planning on appealing. However, the time period still has to be followed. Short version is it's at least a year (likely 18 months) before construction would even begin.

This message is for Brian, hopefully you can clarify yourself about your comment "We do not need to bring an influx of people in from Blanding/103rd/Wilson/Normandy and creat so much traffic and potential increased crime for sure! " Wow, so the rest of us in the surrounding areas are should not be allowed to shop there and it was built just for you? I live in a really nice house, I have nice neighbors and pretty much the same lifestyle that most people have that live in Oakleaf, some of us just choose to live elsewhere for a multitude of reasons (none of which are financial since that could be the next arguement that someone could make).  I find your post insulting and elitist. Am I a lesser person with a higher propensity toward crime? There may be more elements of crime in some of the areas you speak of but not all are bad places, nor the families who live there. It's this type of mentality and disregard for others that really needs to change. You should really think beofre you speak (and type).
Aril

wow!  I noticed Brian's comment in October, and just dismissed it for what it was. A comment. Maybe you should have done the same and not read more into it than what existed.

I believe he was commenting on the fact that if a movie theater was to be built at Oakleaf, we would have teenagers loitering, etc.

If you took it as a personal attack on you, then that is for you to deal with. You obviously have your own issues to work out...  I thought this was a place to comment on what stores are opening at a shopping mall.

Please don't make it your own personal freak out/ therapy session.

And just so you know- there's no need for you to write back and attack me. We're all fully aware now of your mentality. You writing more would only prove it to be true.

I'm so glad that a Hollister is going to be here! They are putting one into the OP but this is so much closer. I think a theatre is a great idea, the OP is the ONLY place teens can go to do anything in Jacksonville because this city is boring, if we had another theatre it would make things so much easier for the kids on the westside to stay OUT of trouble, I say a bunch of teens at this place is much better than house parties with under aged drinking.

Hi All!

I'm new to this blog but I'm glad I found a place where I can get info. on Oakleaf's expansion. I just visited 'Up The Creek' restaurant and I have to say food was decent (which is saying alot from a transplanted New Yorker- smiles). I too would like to see more restaurants open in the area and hopefully not just the 'fast-food' type. I wouldn't mind a theater nearby either, I think it will enhance the entertainment component here. I was wondering though whatever happened to the Public Library that was supposed to open inside the community? Any info on that?

Amy:  The land for the library that you are asking about is right at the "T" intersection of Oakleaf Plantation Pkwy & PLantaion Oaks...across Plantation Oaks from the new school.  But, they don't currently have the budget to build it.  Probably won't happen for at least another 2 -3 years at best.

Did you see Ross opened it's doors today.  The grand opening will be on saturday. Not the best store around but I guess it's something to look forward to.

JRMutley, thanks for the response. It is terrible that a library would take so long. Being a transplant from Gotham (NYC for those not in the know-wink) I get great enjoyment from spending time in a well appointed library. I've passed on to my children the love of books as well. I really do hope that they don't scrap that project. The area where the library is supposed to be looks rather frightening right now. Everything looks abandoned. It's a shame as I have seen the plans for that area and what it was supposed to look like and it really was a very nicely conceived vision. I'm begining to worry a little about all the "abandoned" empty houses I'm seeing cropping up in OLP. Most are atrociously unkept. Just across from us is a home that went into foreclosure and the hedges have now completely covered the windows and the front lawn is dead. Has anyone else noticed these?

IT APPEARS THAT THE BUSINESS GOING UP IN FRONT OF PUBLIX IS NOT A CHIPOTLE AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED BY SOMEONE ELSE.

LOOKS AS IF WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER GAS STATION. THE SMALL BUILDING IS A CAR WASH...

They are the developers for the Oakleaf Towncenter.

They have the Towncenter schematic in a PDF format so that you can view it on your computer.

You can see what is going in and what is not.

Keep in mind though, that this is only for the main shopping center, the north side of Argyle Forrest Blvd., not the whole Oakleaf area.

I am going to take a stab and say that the business going up in front of Publix is either a....Shell, Gate, or BP.

I'm more inclined to say Shell, since they always come with a car wash...

Well, it looks like our Circuit City is the first to become victim of the recent economic problems.  See here:

I believe that Jamba Juice pulled out of Jax...and some other markets...entrirely.  While I can't remember the name, I think another similar place is going in.  But, not in the exact same location.

I think the building going up in front of Publix is starting to looks a lot like a "Dailys" (gas station/con venience store.

I am pretty sure they are putting up a BP gas station in front of Publix. I saw the car wash cloth-like cleaning materials colors were green and yellow, same colors of the BP gas station logo.

It has been confirmed...

The building in front of Publix is a BP with a Dunkin Donuts (complete with drive through).  It also looks like it is going to have postal services of some sort.  There were signs to be installed sitting outside the other day with the Dunkin Donuts and USPS logos on it.  The BP colors and logo have been visable for several days now.

Does anyone know if the Starbucks and Longhorn are going in? I remember seeing a map showing the Longhorn going into the spot where Up the Creek is (the same map showed Up the Creek in the building in front of Home Depot), so I am assuming that Longhorn opted out.  The Starbucks was slated to go in between the Chili's and McDonald's but I never saw any signs on the property.  I am wondering if the closure of the Starbucks on Wells has anything to do with it.  As far as the theater is concerned, it would be nice to see one somewhere out here - other than the mall, our choices on this side of the river are limited to the one-screen in Green Cove or the mall theater in Palatka (and over the water the closest is the Avenues).  What I think would really be a hit out here is a mini-golf/go-cart/arcade center.  And although I am a die-hard Chamblin junkie, a Barnes & Noble would be a nice Christmas gift....

I believe Starbucks backed out about the same time that Panera backed out, which was back in March of this year.

If you didn't notice, Starbucks is closing some stores and scaling back their expansion. yep, it's the economy alright

The Longhorn?? Not sure about that one

I'm amazed that Larry's Giant Subs hasn't staked a claim out here (they seem to be everywhere in Jax), and I think a BBQ joint would do well also.  Does anyone know what is going in beside the Bank of America?

We really need more restaurants besides Chili's and Up the Creek. Though I enjoy Chili's...I can't say the same for Up The Creek. The service was terrible and though the food was good...it wasn't worth the wait. Why can't we get a Maggiano's or Cheeesecake Factory out here?

There would be enough support for a Cheesecake Factory or Maggiano's at the Oak Leaf Town Center. You will continue to see casual dining restaurants like Chili's. Your best hope will be a place like Steak N Shake and Applebee's.

Oakleaf Plantation seriously could use more upscale restaurants like a Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs... We could also really use a bookstore, Barnes and Nobles or a Borders!... Also in desperate need for more things to do with kids, something like a place to paint like Color Me Mine.. or a place with indoor bounce house called Pump it Up...  Kids clothing stores like a Gymboree would also be nice.

How about an ice cream place like Coldstone and a Zaxby's or Quizno's??

The nearest Zaxby's or Coldstone is miles and miles away...
