New Year’s Evening I received a referral call. I hesitate to use the word referral as it was really a strange call. He said he was an agent looking for an agent. When I asked him if he was a CRS or AR agent he said, what's that? I explained to him what CRS and AR meant. Oh really? Huh.
He said he had relative thinking of moving to my area or another few areas. He then said he had specific questions for me. They were not the typical 'what's your experience questions' by a long shot. I'd call them more political questions. Yes, I know that sounds weird - another first - crazy stuff!
His last question was.... will you give me X for a referral fee? I almost laughed out loud! I was thinking, he's not looking for a qualified experienced agent, he's looking to make as much money as possible for himself. When I said that's not how this works. He said, I need to call another agent. Good idea...
The whole situation reminded me of a blog Chris Ann Cleland had written about Greed.
Doing the right thing for clients is the way to go and has been since my first year in the business. It's not about how much money you can make. It's not.
