David Daniel Kaminsky was born in New York City, New York back in 1911 to Jacob and Clara. He attended Public School in East New York. He went to high school at Thomas Jefferson in Brooklyn but did not graduate. He wanted to be a surgeon, but because of the family’s income he could not afford a medical education.
After leaving school he worked as a soda jerk, auto insurance investigator and office clerk. All of his jobs prior to joining the Three Terpsichoreans, a vaudeville dance act he was fired because of his mistakes. In 1934, the troupe left on a six-month tour or Asia. In 1937, he had his film debut with some young hopefuls, June Allyson and Imogene Coca. What can I say the rest is history? His stage performances and movies lasted for 54 years. While you may not recognize his given name, surely you know his stage name, Danny Kaye.
