Many relocation clients, coming into our market for the first time, are amazed at how affordable our housing is compared to other states.  Texas, in general, has not experienced the bubble that many places did, guaranteeing a more difficult market later on.

Our average home prices are around 150K today and if you are going over that price range you will have a wide range of choices that will be guaranteed to please you.  In the 250K and up you can choose patio homes, acreage homes, older & larger homes, newer and smaller homes with more amenities.  Some might include swimming pools, outdoor kitchens, outdoor fireplaces, and beautiful spaces for entertaining.  I even found a house last week with a putting green in the back yard!

Before you settle on your path try a few hats on for size.  It can really pay off.  Sometimes what a buyer initially wants is just the gingerbread version of what they think a home should be.  By showing options or at least mentioning them (along with positives and negatives for each option) as an agent we can find what will really fit your lifestyle.

Hi Chris...Well, times have not changed.  I bought a home in Houston back in 1966 and it was very reasonable.  Of course we are comparing them to prices on both coasts where it prices are higher.

I'm glad to hear that you market is holding up and still a good place to buy a home.

Chris, we were amazed when we moved here 11 years ago how much house we got for the money.  11 years later our prices have went up but still gradually and you still get a LOT of house for the money compared to other places.  You have to LOVE TEXAS!!

Chris - Can't find anything worth buying for $150,000 in my maket. Frankly if you can do it in Texas it should be possible in other markets.

We really have some great bargains here!  I would say that over 50% of the real estate I sell here is under 150K.  What great bargains!  Great homes too!

I believe Bryan-College Station has some of the best values in Texas. The appreciation has been steady and not too accelerated.
