Day on the Beach with Katie & Mullet

By

Now if you really want to have a good day on the beach, bring the dog.  My dog Katie is a 11 pound Bichon that doesn't realize she is too small to confront a lab or other large dog.  She also doesn't understand, as I don't, that everyone doesn't like dogs.  She gets so excited when a stranger or another small dog gets close.   You can easily tell when a Bichon gets excited...the tail begins to wiggle and speeds up the more excited they become.  What is funny is the way she acts when she spots another Bichon up the beach vs a different breed.  When bichons meet on the beach, they each wag their tails and begin ducking and weaving and playing together as if they have played many times.  It seems they each know the other is a Bichon also.

If you enjoyed the bichon on the American Kennel, you would truly like Katie.  She has strong hind legs and is able to walk in circles begging for treats and can jump at least 3 feet.  She loves to stay close to me especially if I'm sick or tired.  No matter what time of day or night, she will lie next to me when I'm sick.

Bichons do not enjoy being alone so we have a lab and they hang out during the day while we're at work and team up when looking a treat.  The lab is getting old and is having trouble getting up the stairs so we're trying to get him accustomed to using the elevator.  He is not as scared as he was when we first began a month or so ago.  In fact, I've noticed he is beginning to head to the elevator as soon as going out is mentioned.  I'm not sure what we'll do when he isn't around any longer. Katie has been very good for him.  Before we got her five years ago, Mullet ,the lab, just laid around all day and seemed so old.  Well, she sure got him moving and he has treated her very well.  It's for sure, he's had a lot of energy to keep up with but it has surely been the best thing we could have done for him.

I love having dogs, but I've never had to deal with the loss of one and I really do not like thinking about that part of it.  I just enjoy every day and tell them how lucky they are and us too.  Unfortunately, all animals are not treated well and that's a shame.  Having pets make coming home every day very enjoyable.

We try to support the Humane Society as often as possible and wish we could do more.  We are fortunate that most of our friends and my fellow real estate agents love animals as we do.  This helps as we team up at times to have fund raisers as a group.  Also, the RE team I work with has two bichons and they too are so much fun and so loving.
