A swan by the side of the road in Rye NH

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Verani Realty

Did you know that they bite? I didn't and thank god I didn't because I probably would not have stayed there and filmed.

We were on our way to Portsmouth NH to have lunch with Ann Cummings when a thick fog bank rolled in and covered everthing.

Up in Rye on the side of the road we encountered a huge white swan, several little ducks and a sky rat (seagul) all playing in a swamp covered in lily pads.  I shot a few short videos and posted them on my outside blog. If you want to watch them click here>>> http://monikamcgillicuddy.com/wordpress/

It was a sight to see!

They can but not allof them! We used to have a house on the Bay when my son was little...........we had a pet swan that used to come to us every morning and Chris would feed him............we called him Hector the Swan........his female counterpart had died we think..because when we first moved there there were 2 of them.......but he kept coming back...probably looking for her.........

Great photo... and hell yes, they bite.  Those little devils can be downright mean.

I've never heard a gull called a sky rat before, but it sure fits.

Monika, give Ann my regards. Yes, swans can be mean. One chased one of my sons in a park years ago when we were feeding the ducks. Great shot, however.

I was like maybe 3 feet away from it and had no idea they were or could be mean. LOL...Jay kept calling me to come on..but I kept standing there taking pictures.

They were sure pretty!

Thank you all!

I took that picture. Mr. McGillicuddy was safely out of pecking range... while I in my innocence stood about 3 feet away from the Swan.

Monika Swans can make great watch dogs.  I can't believe that you never saw a video clip of them chasing someone.  Glad you did not get to close :)

I had a dream about this swan last night, and pink swans.  Did someone tell us about pink swans this week?  Seems someone did, and maybe that's why I dreamed about your swan and the pink ones last night.

Thanks Sally, Missy, and Bill for the wishes.

Monika, Enjoyed your photos, my favorite ones are 5 and six, with the wings out.  Just curious, what did you use to video? Was it the Flip?

Thanks for sharing!

Margaret

Thank you so much.

I was using my little digital camera a Cannon sd850 IS.  I never did buy the Flip camera. I like the quality of the video it produces.
