Infusing Paint - Going GREEN

Recently a friend of mine introduced me to a great idea that is both GREEN and Positive! I mentioned to her about finding recycled paint (Metro Paint) that is a fraction of the price of regular paint and is great for one coat coverage, downside...it has a really strong odor.

Michelle let me know about a friend of hers who uses essential oils in the paint to infuse "scents" in a room. To simply remove the odor use Peppermint Oil (and stir very well) and it will eliminate the strong paint smell!

So I thought I would share this with anyone on the blog who is interested!

There are several varieties of Essential Oils, one for every room and mood, here are some suggestions for infusing paint in specific locations:

Home Office - Infuse with Abundance, Inspiration

Family Room - Infuse with Joy

Kids Bedroom - Infuse with Peace & Calming, Dream Catcher

Bathroom - Infuse with Lavender

Contact Michelle to ask about the ratio of Essential Oils vs. Paint.

Homeowners, if you are getting ready to SELL, now is NOT the time to experiment with the essential oils or any painting techniques (although if the paint has a strong smell, you might want to try the peppermint to eliminate the scent!)

Our tip: NEUTRAL warm paint is always best, no matter what the current trends are; better SAFE than sorry.

That's a very interesting concept.  I like the idea of recycled paint (who knew?)

If you're going to add essential oils to your paint, do we know how long the smell lasts?

Hello Nancy,

I had to check with my friend to answer your question or How long does the smell last?  She said that the purpose of infusing the paint was more than just to make the room "smell nice", the purpose was to infuse the essence of the oil into it.  In doing so, they had discovered that the peppermint oil had eliminated the strong paint smell!

In my experience with using essential oils, they don't last very long once air borne, but I must agree with Michelle on the purpose of the oils...to infuse the essence.  I personally have 3 that I use:  Abundance, Joy and Peace & Calming. I put a little Abundance on a cotton ball and put in with my business cards :-) plus I dab a bit on my skin (it's pretty strong, but I like it) and then I use the peace and calming one on the soles of my feet, with both a little goes a LONG way.  I also have a terra cotta pendant that I put a few drops of when in my car and that lasts several days!  I hope that helps.

Kathryn
