Fairfax real estate anyone? Are you interested in how many home sales in Fairfax Virginia? So am I, and I use them everyday to determine what is happening. It is interesting when statistics are placed out to the public they are often only a snapshot of a bigger picture. One grain of sand on hte beach does not show you that over the course of several years the beach is eroding at an alarming rate. It is too limited. I like to understand the big picture! The bigger picture is always more important because you can see the developing trends, and dismiss the anomalies. If you can see the bigger picture in sales, you can advise, plan and strategize!
Below is a simple chart designed from MRIS data available to look at monthly and yearly trends. I made a comparison of the month of May 2008 to May 2007, 2006, and 2005. In this case one picture is worth a 100o words. Our Fairfax real estate market is off by over 42.2% from the peak of homes sales in May of 2005.
