Geek Question re: Localism and Photographs

By
Real Estate Agent with COMPASS DRE# 01339266

Is there a problem loading photos on Localism? I need assistance from fellow Rainers. I've been trying for almost a week to load a few pics, but keep getting an error message.

Can you help?

Update: 6/23/08 - I've been able to load a pic for a neighborhood but cannot load a pic for a City or County. Is this a new thing or is this how "Localism Photos" are meant to operate?

I haven't loaded any photos to Localism lately, but I've never had any issues.  You should send an email to AR and let them know about the problem you're having.

Stewart,

Try this. Coincidentally, this was asked by someone else this weekend. Here is copied my response to that request. He replied that this helped. Email me if it does not help.

You can only post a photo into the city. I do not think AR allows photos to be posted into the state or county any more.

Go to the city on localism.

On the left of the city page there is the option to see the photos.

Click to see photos, and then on the photo page,

on the right there is the add photo option.

Hi Stewart...I'm going to park here as I need to know this also although I really have to learn much more about Localism than just about the photos.

Glad you asked the question and it looks like Richard helped us out.

Kathleen,

I was checking back in to see if my comment helped.

Do not give me too much credit with understanding Localism. Here is a post I put up today asking questions. Don't get too caught up in the technical questions about keywords and stuff, read the comments.

There are a lot of us who are struggling to grasp a better idea about how it is supposed to work.

Anyway, you can at least post up some photos.

Richard - I appreciate your responses - but unfortunately I still keep getting the "unexpected error" message.

An Unexpected Error Occurred.

We've notified the appropriate people at ActiveRain about this error. Sorry! We'll try to get whatever caused this fixed as soon as possible.

Stewart,

What is really interesting is that I just tried to upload a photo into Chattanooga, and received I think the same error.

The problem you are having, I think, is that AR is requiring the photos to be uploaded to the lowest tier. When I tried Chattanooga, the error came up.

But when I tried a community, I was able to upload a photo. See below, I did not upload to Chattanooga, but to Ooltewah which is a Community in Chattanooga.

I do not know if this is a problem with towns that do not have communities listed. And I think now I remember a post that said to add a community, notify AR with a feedback report. I say this because the same error came up when I tried to add a community.

Let me know if this does not help.

Go to a community level, even if it is not precise, below West Hollywood.

What you are supposed to get when you click on Upload Photo.

All - I have been getting the same errors. I opened a trouble ticket last week and still have not heard back. I assume they are working on it... Anyway, I have been itching to get more "active" on localism...... but the errors have been frustrating.

Best wishes!

Richard - Thanks for your advice and input. I managed to load a photo for a neighborhood but still cnnot load for a City. Is this a glitch in the system or is this how it's meant to work?

Stewart,

I think for now, and probably by design, photos can only be uploaded into the neighborhood/community level.

Further, I think you must send a feedback request to add a neighborhood/community.

Good job working through all that.

According the Help Desk responce I received:

"Currently the ability to upload photos to Localism is down and more then likely will not be brought back up until the new localism is released."

Howard,

Thanks for that update. I was able to upload photos at the community level, just not the city level. It is also good to know that a new Localism is being released. Maybe to address all the issues that are being discussed.

See what trouble you caused Stewart.

Hi Stewart - This is all interesting, I didn't know there was a new Localism being released, I'll check around the Localism groups to see if there's mention of this.  A few months ago I added a bunch of pictures and was able to do it at the city (Titusville) level.  I just checked, and spot-on, it's only at the community level.  No error messages or otherwise.  Richard asked What you are supposed to get when you click on Upload Photo ....I think you get to see your photo in the right hand side column :-)  Sorry - couldn't resist! ....but it doesn't make much sense to only allow photos at that level since they are neighborhood specific (at least in my locale).  Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Stewart,

It helps if you size your photos for the web.  I use Photoshop Elements, and choose the option "Save for Web" to make a 2 meg file size down to 167kb.  It looks just as good on a computer, and it loads quickly.

I'll have to go try one, as it has been awhile.

I had problems trying to load photos to localism.com as well. I think the new localism.com was due to launch today. I'm using this as a reminder to go see if I can upload photos.

This is now late May of 2009 AND WE STILL CANNOT UPLOAD PHOTOS TO LOCALISM, NOT EVEN THE TOWNS WE SPONSOR! I am a big AR Fan, but this is not only frustrating, it is costly to pay for sponsorship and not be able to use such a big part of the whole thing. I too was able to upload back in the beginning and kept thinking that "they really are working on it", but now I am not sure.
