                                                           25th Infantry Division

Schofield Barracks is located in Hawaii on the island of Oahu.  More specifically, it is located in Central Oahu near the towns of Wahiawa and Mililani.  Most major Army installations are referred to as "Forts" or "Posts" but in this case we are dealing with a "Barracks".

The 25th Infantry Division is home to several "Brigades".  For the sake of simplicity, a brigade is made up of approximately 4-6 "Battalions".  A battalion is made up of approximately 4-6 "companies", "batteries" or "troops".

Located at Schofield Barracks and adjoining Wheeler Army Airfield are the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Brigade, Aviation Brigade, 45th Sustainment Brigade and the 8th Military Police Brigade.  In addition, the 8th Theatre Sustainment Command, 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Special Troops Battalion and the 556 Personell Service Battalion are also part of the Division team and play an integral role in the success of the Division.

There are also two Brigades that are stationed in other locations.  The 1st Brigade is stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington and the 4th Brigade is stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

The 25th Infantry Divison has proudly served in numerous wars and conflicts around the globe.  The Soldiers that make up the division are currently deployed to several locations to include Iraq.

I will forever consider myself a proud member of the 25th Infantry Divison, Tropic Lightning, where I served my last tour of duty as a First Sergeant in the 2-11 Field Artillery Regiment before my retirement.  In my 22 year military career, this was the finest group of Soldiers that I have ever had the opportunity to serve alongside.

I understand that 2nd Battalion will be coming back from Iraq soon.  It will be nice to have them back.

Randy-I know you mean the 2nd Brigade :)  They are due back in the late summer.  The Advertiser had a story today on the on-line version about possible extensions in Iraq.  With the amount of forces that LTG Petraeus needs on the ground, there may be units that go to Iraq sooner than anticipated and units that are already there get kept longer.  I experienced it twice.  Once while I was deployed to Iraq during Desert Storm and got extended for 30 days and on my last deployment to Iraq where I was extended for 2 months.  That is nothing compared to these Soldiers that could be extended up to 4 months.  Ouch!

Thanks for the correction.  That will be a huge burden for them and their families if they get extended.

Randy-The spouses always have it tougher on the "home-front".  I know the spouses and the Soldiers are not looking forward to any sort of an extension.  I thank God I had such a great wife who handled a hell of a lot more than I could have back at home when I was deployed.  I had a much easier job dealing with insurgents trying to cross the border from Iran into Iraq then she did with dealing with a 17 year old boy!  Sure enough, he turned out just fine.

Great article about "Tropic Lightning".  Orgaizational information is always interesting to the civilian community.  It gives us a sense of "ownership" in the brave men and women and makes us feel like we know about their unit.

Godspeed, 25th.  Come home safely!

Aloha Brian!  Thanks for the high 5.  I will continue to post on these fine troops.  By the way, I enjoyed talking to you over the holidays.  Maybe someday we will continue on with "leaseholds" discussion. Have a great evening/morning!
