Greenland NH Antique Home in Center

AT HOME IN GREENLAND NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Greenland is a small town right next to Portsmouth and Stratham.  The total geographical size of Greenland is only 10.5 square miles, and the current population is about 3,400 residents.

Quaint and charming, Greenland was originally a parish of Portsmouth dating back to 1638.  Greenland came into its own in 1721, receiving "full town privileges" which meant being able to collect taxes from its residents, among other things.  Imagine, collecting taxes from residents....

Greenland NH, home mostly to quiet residential areas and some very small condo communities, has some very nice pastoral areas, and a little bit of commercial mixed in here and there.  Located between Route 1 on the eastern side and Great Bay on the western side, everything in the area is within a very short drive from Greenland.  All that Portsmouth has to offer is just 5-10 minutes away, the Atlantic Ocean and area beaches are within an easy 10 minute drive, Boston and Portland Maine are both just about 45 minutes away in opposite directions, a 3 minute drive to NH Community Technical College, and the University of NH in Durham is within a 15-20 minute drive....just an overall great location.

Greenland NH Central School - Ann Cummings Copyright 2007Greenland students attend Greenland Central School, for Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, and then attend Portsmouth High School for grades 9 through 12.

Greenland is part of the SAU 50 School District.

Greenland
has a very active Recreation Department with plenty of youth sports programs - basketball, baseball, soccer, and softball.  Summer camps offered include programs for tennis, soccer, and field hockey.

Greenland NH Weeks Public Library - Ann Cummings Copyright 2007

Weeks Public Library has all kinds of programs going on all year long for Greenland residents.  Some of their current programs are Story Hours for kids twice a week, Ladies Night Out, Book Discussion Groups, and more.  A number of town meetings are also held at this wonderful small-town public library as well.

Golf Clubs

Greenland is fortunate to be the home of 3 great golf courses ~~ Bramber Valley Golf Course, Portsmouth Country Club, and Breakfast Hill Golf Club.  For a small town, this is a golfer's heaven, that's for sure!  And just in case these 3 courses aren't enough, right next door in Stratham is The Golf Club of New England, Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, and Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club in North Hampton will be waiting for all you golfers!

Great pictures of the homes Ann! I miss the old traditional home look from time to time. You don't get that in California as much :)

Hi Scott - you got in there while I was still editing!  Thanks for the comments - I love the homes we have in this area, and I'd really miss all those beautiful antique styles if I went anywhere else!

I was surprised at the average residential home price in Greenland. I didn't think it was that high. Another nice localism post.

Ann you alway do such a great job presenting area information, I am sure the towns would be proud.  Maybe you could get the chamber of commerce to link to your blog.

I have not been to New Hampshire or Maine but if I do the information you have provided would certainly help me understand the area better.

Ann.....  I will agree with Scott.  Some nice pictures and good information. Even though I am a lender, I am going to embark on my first blog in regards to my town of Haddonfield. I did do a series on Philly.... but this will be more for Localism, I guess.

Ann thats a great post for the areas you serve.  I love the way you present your stats.  109 day and 46 days to sell, thats a hopping market..  So much for all the doom and gloom the media wants to share about real estate..

Keep it up.. wE need more positive news like this

Ann,

Your photos really bring back memories to me. I have seen that yellow house (the first photo). I have only been to New Hampshire a handful of times, but alway thought it was beautiful. Clean air, nice smells and an all around "good" feeling. I also would like to say that your Localism posts are some of the best that I have seen. Can you write some for me?  Only kidding, keep up the great work!

ANNNEE......I miss Greenland!  I want my view of the apple orchard back!  Seriously, awesome article.  I am trying to put one together for Sanford - and just did the same stats you did for our town.  It's amazing to me how we can be just over half an hour away and have such a variance in the stats! Oh, and that yellow house at the beginning of your post - love it - remember it well! Good job! Liz

Karen - thanks for reading!   If I ever left here, I would surely miss all those things about this area, and so much more.  Once it's in your blood, it's there forever, I think.  I know when I go away for a vacation or whatever, I come home and I am HOME.  I'm not from here, but this surely is my home!

Sue - I'm sorry I didn't get back in here sooner!  Please let us know where and when the open house is.  Like Jay said, I'd love to go see your work, especially right here in my neck of the woods.

Liz- C'mon back then!!!!  It is interesting the differences in the markets so close together.  By and large, for the towns in my areas, most of the stats were fairly consistent with each other.  If you come over for a drive or a visit, call me and we can meet up for lunch or something.

Jay - thanks for stopping by!

Monika - I always appreciate your feedback!  I know you've been busy, so I'm glad you were able to stop by!

That gorgeous yellow house in my first picture on this post is right in the very heart of Greenland, across from the little center park with the gazebo.  It is a stunningly beautiful antique home, set back off the road a little......how could I do a post on Greenland and not include that beauty?!?!?

Thank you all for reading and for your comments!!!
