Perhaps the most representative ad during Super Bowl LV was Matthew McConaughey touting Doritos, going through life “flat” as his alter cardboard-like persona slithers along.
It’s appropriate because the ads mostly fell flat.
While McConaughey winds up in a vending machine, eating the chips that suddenly infuse him with personality – and he gets stuck in the machine, a few themes popped through for advertisers, who forked over an average of about $5.5 million for a 30-second spot:
