Waiting on Weather…

People joke that the slightest dusting of ice or thought of snow will bring the city of Houston to shut down. And, they would be partially correct.

Currently (Sunday evening) it is 31 degrees and they say we are getting light snow showers. (I’m still looking for them) Tonight (Sunday), we might get snow somewhere around 2 A.M.

We don’t get much snow in Houston...in fact growing up here, I could count on one hand the number of times we had snow. And, the snow we got was so light that there was barely enough to build a decent snowman.

We have been checking our hummingbird feeder all day to make sure that the nectar and feeder holes haven’t frozen. We are doing our best to keep the birds fed.

Yesterday I made a quick trip to the store for chili mix and could not find any. I have never seen the meat department so depleted...even prior to a hurricane or the beginning of the pandemic.

In Houston, our freeways ice over before most of the roadways, and our reputation is that we don’t know how to drive in it. (they’re probably right)

My nephew/ police officer will have to stay overnight at his HQ because they’re concerned that the next shift will not be able to get into the city.

So now, here we sit, fingers crossed that the power doesn’t go out and that our pipes don’t burst.

I’m setting an alarm so I won’t miss the snow that’s supposed to arrive around 2 A.m.

I’ll keep you posted!!

It's been 31 years since Branson has over 4 inches of snow .  Weather patterns typically are 30 year cycles, as per my meteorologist friend. So here we are.... solar panels and wind turbines won't work in this mess FYI...... electric grid 95% powered by oil, gas and coal.

Good morning Kathy Streib,

Well stand by....its headed your way! We got 6" in Austin and it was 7 degrees when I got up! Since we don't get snow our roads are not passable. No one out spreading sand or salt because we don't have that available! Looks like we are going to hit again Tuesday night!

Sharon Lee I didn't think much about it but we don't have snow plows here, like up north.

Nina Hollander normally ours will melt the same day. We're supposed to be in the teens today and it's windy too.

Lise Howe even as the pandemic hit, we still had meat. When I went Saturday there were only 3 packages of ground beef. That said, the store is doing everything it can to restock.  It's strange.

Wow Greg Brown, Sales Rep Toronto, Durham region now that's cold. I didn't live in a snow area until I was a lot older. It wasn't bad though.

Barbara Todaro thanks...I think he's still there. My niece is without power.

Kat Palmiotti I looked out and it was either snow or icy rain. I couldn't tell. The roads are the issue now....that and many are without power.

Ed Silva we are usually in the 60s I think and it is about 17 degrees and windy.  But all is good.

Grant Schneider no, no walks but we've been in and outside constantly replacing the frozen water with warmer water and checking on the hummingbird feeders.

faye schubert I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we keep our power. My niece's power is off and she has no water. I think the concern here was ice on the lines and people using more power because of the cold. Stay warm.

Thank you Ron and Alexandra Seigel the only wandering we've done is to care for our birds. Larry has been changing the handwarmer in the bluebird house. I did try to build a small snowman but I couldn't get the snow to stick together.

We got it Dorie Dillard Austin TX and you're right...we don't have the plows, etc like up north. The wind makes it really difficult. I heard that there's another cold front on its way.

Hannah Williams as long as we have power, I'll be there!!! Looking forward to seeing you.

In my humble experience while driving through Houston is that the city travels at 85 miles per hour, until just one person screws up (Don't worry I find this to be true in almost every in municipality) It just happens faster in Houston Kathy Streib
