The Value of your Entertainment dolloar

With the price of oil continually on the rise, going out for the day/night costs more and more.  That's not even considering the rising cost of food and entertainment in general.  You might think that the product quality would rise to compensate but that certainly hasn't happend.  My wife and I saw two movies this weekend and where not only less than impressed with the $20 price tag on a pair of tickets, but were underwelmed with the movies as well.  All in all, it would seem to me that focusing on the "Home Entertainment" features of a home are becoming more important.

Media Room/Theater, Yard, Game room... etc.

When your literally spending hundreds of dollars a month "on the town", it would be better to buy a house that can meet that entertainment need without going out.  With the price of projectors at all time lows, I would certainly rather Buy or Rent a new release DVD and watch it at home in my media room.

All that said, marketing your home for sale as an option to meet this increasingly important need seems to be a good idea.

Interesting point. I wonder as the price of gas goes higher what will happen to these types of businesses.

I am expediting my dedicated home theatre.  You are right about the movies being out of contro.   I used to be an executive in the movie theatre industry and tickets are STILL about double what they are when I got out of the business 10 years ago.  Crazy.   Thanks

I like the home entertainment idea.  Its probably what people will need to do to compensate for the prices that have gone up.

Home theatres are certainly a nice bonus feature for sure.  I am a movie lover and I still go to the movies for the movies that look like they are going to be action packed but otherwise I watch them at home using "On Demand".  This is about 1/5 the cost of taking my family to the movies and many of the new releases are available within 4 to 6 months of the theatre release date.

I've had a ton of experience in the "Home Theater" industry and can tell you that you can get a ton of value today.  Projectors in general used to be quite large and very expensive.  Now you can get a HD projector thats small enough to be inconspicuous and has a throuw distance long enough to hide it on the far end of a room.  With that in mind, a multi purpose entertainment room with a kick a** theater is a real possibility for minimal dollars.  Beyond that, screens can be covered with artwork and or drop out of the ceiling.  The audio industry has exploded as well with speakers that are smaller and smaller yet maintain the performance you want.  It's not just BOSE anymore.  This stuff actually blows it away.

It's my bet that these types of business will have to change to stay alive.  Your local theater is already decreasing the sizes of their theater so they can have more theaters with more titles playing throughout the day.  That however does nothing for the product.  What I'm tired of is going to the new hyped remake, trilogy or release from your favorite director that sucks so bad it's gone by the end of the month.  You have to be decerning.  Consequently, I stay home and watch those "on Demand" and new release DVD's.  More and more people are doing the same thing.  I'm sure that the housing market will follow.  Hopefully, these new construction builders will get a clue.  Most of their "Media" rooms lack a basic understanding of what's available and or required.

Thank you for the comments.  If anyone sees a good media room or theater project/home out there as an example... shoot me an email.  Thanks again.
