It Could Happen Here. . .

And So Can Any Incident

Perseverance, Pondering And More

Like many people,  I have experienced the events happening in Texas this week albeit from a distance.  And it’s a reminder that it could happen here too.  Anywhere, in fact.

Those of us who live in what some identify as “that place” where the shakes and quakes of the earth may prompt a reaction of “what do you think that was on the Richter scale?” in response to a moments-ago jolt.

When we look around we see there are all sorts of other issues(and side discussions) developing for any number of reasons.  Truthfully, those issues were likely already in existence in my opinion.  In one way or another.

As individuals, we are also not immune to disruptions in life.  Unexpected.  Unplanned.   Unprepared.  Sure, I can digress.  And ponder.  But like you, I do realize that things can and do happen.

I am also reminded that Perseverance is a part of this week’s events.  Thanks to NASA and people of all kinds.  And that happens quite frequently.  Fortunately.   Even at your own home.  And that’s worth remembering.  Always.

Morning Michael.

If I didn't experience a disruption every day, I have done nothing.  It happens, as I know it will again today.

Crazy and unexpected things can happen to all of us at any time. Being able to deal with whatever is going on, and perservering until it's overcome, are important skills to have.

Enjoy your weekend!

Your words are so true and it is kind of scary living in a world that is filled with so much uncertainty, especially from the people that are supposed to lead us to great things.

Endre Barath, Jr. - we may not experience snow and ice situations like Texas but our state is not immune from natural disasters as we know quite well.    It may not be exactly like what others may experience but how we face the situation makes a difference.

The issue with the power grid issue in Texas is also one that addresses the infrastructure of our entire country so again that is something that needs our attention.  And that has needed our collective attention for a number of years(likely decades).   The power grids, bridges, roads/highways --- just the beginning.  But an important beginning. . .

f course, our own personal infrastructure is need of constant/consistent  maintenance.    That is something we should approach each moment.  It's one where I remain a work-in-progress.  It's quite the task!  To say the least.

James Dray - moving on and moving forward each day.  And as you advise us daily - with a smile as our constant accessory.

Kat Palmiotti - you're right, it really does begin with us.  How we react.  The choices we make.   The words we choose.   Our behaviors/actions/thoughts.  Each is important.

Brian England - although it may seem(and likely is) hokey or even antiquated - I think we could use a good sing-along of We Are The World but truly listen to the words as it is sung. Not only listening but living those words.  Most of all, believing in the words as they relate to each of us.  Not us versus them.   We're a part of life.  No one gets outta here alive.    Remember. . .

Michael,

You are so right, events happen no matter where we live.  Texas has had it rough this week.  We've had our share but with a much less dense population, it's effects were not like that.

We are having enormous reminders regarding our power grids in this country. They are in dire need of reform and attention. Do you think the right people are listening? I sure hope so. And yes, it can happen anywhere. Like the conditions of the last year, it's how we weather the storms of life that determines our character.

Roy Kelley - you're absolutely correct.

1~Judi Barrett - I think Texas received the press for a number of reasons;  its sheer size, of course, makes it stand out but there are other factors that highlight the challenges in other places.  The coverage exposed the lack of preparedness we can each identify in our own lives.  I hope things are quickly returning to a normal way of life for you and your community.

Michael, Texas has endured a lot this past week with unbelievable weather.  We had temperatures below zero for a few days, but we are prepared.

Good morning Michael Jacobs I remember when I was living in California, 95% of earthquakes were something to be rated like a ride at Disneyland. I guess you get used to some things.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - the reminders are not-so-subtle yet they seem to be discussed often but lay somewhat dormant until an issue erupts. Or is it disrupts...

Joan Cox - Texas is but one of the many recent examples.  We need only look in our own backyard.

Rocky Dickerson - in California, our "normal" seems to get attention when visitors arrive and experience an earthquake firsthand.  I remember one such visitor who was visiting coincidentally at the time from Texas and was staying in a hotel on the one of the higher floors during an early morning shocker.  It seemed rather mild to us - him - not so much.  Rock-and-roll was re-defined at that moment.   A good reminder.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - you make an excellent point, once the news crews leave and the attention goes in another direction, the previous situation remains but it should still be in the spotlight.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - proper preparation comes into play and such disasters/events often come with forewarning of some type.  I am sure each of our areas can easily/readily cite instances of infrastructure improvement that may be on a wish list but becomes a warning or prediction after the fact.
