Hanging Over My Head

When you work in a multi-level office building you may have no idea what may be hanging over your head. On Friday I learned what was hanging over my head. Old Rusty!

OldSewerPipe

It's an old toilet/sewer pipe that decided IT had to "go". Of course, with my 600 sq' office space , my 2' sq computer had to be directly underneath it. How lucky for me! On the positive side at least it wasn't in my son's Ary Gallery.

Here is the not so beautiful site above my desk as they had to tare through the 100 year old ceiling to get to the problem. BTW can you say asbestos?

UpAboveMyHead

Of course this happened Friday around 4:00. Lucky for me a contractor was called in right away and he worked all weekend. By yesterday afternoon things were fairly well cleaned up and now (late Tuesday morning) I'm back at my desk with an adaquate running computer. Geeeze!

It could have been worse Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist but as you said there is a bright side (or two) to it. As soon as it happened I thought about Mr Crappy and hoped he would approve of the post. 😃

Hello Bob,  Yes glad it did not get into your son art gallery.  That would not be good.

It would have been a disaster Will Hamm . The computer ended up undamaged but stained original artwork would have been a true loss.

Hi Bob, I decided to pop into AR and read a few posts. And I see our good friend Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist featured your post in the Craptacular group. It was well deserved! I'm sorry for the loss of your computer. I assume it was beyond saving. :( It's good to see you are doing well.

Good point Michael J. Perry . When you have an old building with layers of ceilings there is just no way of knowing what might drop in for a visit.

There was no major damage Grant Schneider and what was didn't reach the deductable. The landlord was very good about fixing things including my loss.

We had some leaks a few years ago in our office roof.  Made for some interesting days, but nothing like a toilet causing them.  Just rain and a deteriorating roof.

Bob, and to complicate matters, asbestos was found in the ceiling.  If it didn't require full haz mat removal procedures, that would be a lucky break also.

Chris Ann Cleland by the time that rain water gets to you it's none to clean either. Finding a leak in a roof is never easy, it usually leads to a whole new roof.

Good point Kris Collis, Associate Broker .  I think to remove the asbestos in this building they would have to tear it down 🙄.
