DRIVING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN WESTCHESTER

By
Education & Training with Performance Development Strategies

The practice of diversity and inclusion is something I have tried to champion in each of my many years as an HR professional.  It is incoporated into all of my training.  We promote diversity and inclusion in the Business Council of Westhester.

During the month of February we had a conference on diversity and inclusion.

We have a talented group and a diverse group of volunteers at the Business Council of Westchester.

In a later blog I will be adding the diversity and inclusion component to my discussion of ingagement.

To simplify Diversity and Inclusion, Diversity is being asked to the party, Inclusion is being asked to dance.

Do you have a business team that you would like to engage?

Diversity and inclusion should be something that is ingrained in us, not something we have to make a point of doing.

Hello Grant - discussion is often the first step  on the road to success especially when it includes meaningful connection between participants and engagement/involvement.

Good morning, Grant... what Endre Barath, Jr. except for the part about being called a "fn foreigner." But I did "stand out" in the early 1970's as a woman entering the corporate world in a financial function.

Hi Grant Schneider, In my corporate life, I rose to a mid-level manager in the Staffing industry in Southern California.  I remember when HR was the "Personnel Department".  Diversity and inclusion make us much stronger in all aspects of life and business. Being open and welcome to all people and their ideas is powerful.

No one has the right to make anyone uncomfortable.  We should all be welcoming to each other - that is just being a decent human.

Good morning Grant Schneider yeah, I believe in seeing everyone as my equal, it is a shame we get these things like the Coke training that actually seems to divide rather than unite

Hi Grant Schneider, like Endre Barath, Jr., I've had some unpleasant experiences myself, diversity is something that should be taught at home, not something that is forced on us by society.

Grant I applaud you for championing diversity and inclusion.  Unfortunately I see to many people these days claiming to be championing diversity and inclusion but really discriminating against others who they do not consider a minority class.  Diversity and inclusion applies to everyone.  Both the minority and majority!!!

Sham - thank you.

Roy - have a great day.

Brian - we all have preferences and bias which means we need to continue to look.

Michael - connection is a key word.

Nina - in the early 70's my management training group had women and plenty of experienced people in the workplace kept pointing that out.

Sheri - yes, my first HR job was personnel manager.

Lise - that is true.

Joan - yes, for daily life it is reaching out to other people you don't know.

Rocky - I think that some people who claim to support this are doing things that are counter productive.

Ron and Alexandra A - I certainly can tell that.

Beth - I remember reading it in your blog.  Let's face it.  Home is where it begins.

Endre - yes, as did I and we taught our children.

Paul - thank you.

George - yes.  The problem is that they think wedge issues are good to exploit.  It is sad.

Absolutely, appreciate your message. While I do agree with many, that the basics need to be taught at home. Sadly, parents with narrow minds often raise children with the same limited thinking.  Unfortunately, there are times when we need to step up to ensure that open doors exist for everyone.
