Cargal Obit

Our family lost a beautiful, vibrant, young lady last week. Kourtney was 22 years old when she lost her courage battle with cancer. She married the love of her life, Brent Cargal in February of 2007. In November, 2007 she began having severe headaches. The doctors treated her for migrains but after a couple of weeks her mother took her to the doctor demanding the doctor get to the bottom of the problem. They found a stage 3 malignant tumor in her brain. The doctors prepared to do surgery but before they could the tumor began to hemmorage then she had a stroke. Kourtney was in a coma for seven months. She had several bleeds during this time and a few more strokes. She fought very hard.

During her time in the hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Kourtney touched many lives. Her family never left her side. At her services last week, her nurse spoke as well as the hospital chaplain and numerous other friends. Her nurse said she had never seen a family so united and caring in her nursing career. Kourtney's Mother, Father, Step Father and her husband never left her side. They also helped other families deal with their grief while at the hospital. The Chaplain said he saw her Mother and sister delivering food to the children at Children's Medical while they were there. Evidently, so many friends were bringing them food that they had plenty to share with others.

Kourtney was my cousin's child. I will tell you now, I have never seen so much love and cooperation in a family. Her entire family changed their lives to be with her for seven months. The minister called the 14 year old brother a hero because he gave up everything for the seven months while he stayed with family friends so his Mother and Dad could be with his sister. I personally believe there were many heroes in that family including Kourtney.

Becky, I am so sorry for your loss of Kourtney. I know you have been going through much in your life. To lose her life at such a young age is unfathomable. I will pray extra hard for her family and especially for you for comfort from this part of your life. Who can explain these things? But when it happens at such a young age it is especially tough. KNOW that I will have YOU in my thoughts.

Gary,

Thank you so much for your concern and your prayers. We are never really prepared for a loss even though we thought we were it still hurt. I can tell you her family were amazing at the services. My heart breaks for her sweet young husband. He thought their live was just beginning. She is definitely in a better place. They had so many stories to tell of people dealing with so many tragedies at the hospital. I have to tell you the ironic thing was her grandfather (my aunt's husband) died at 27 from a malignant brain tumor 43 years ago. How conincidental was that.

Becky, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your very beautiful relative.  This is so sad, but especially so to lose someone so young and with so much ahead of her.  My sympathy goes out to you and your family.  I can't imagine what they are going through.  I will continue to think of you and send out my thoughts to you in the coming days.  God Bless you and your family as you deal with this tragedy.

I had no idea.  I just came across this post.  She was such a beautiful girl and sounds like her spirit is just as beautiful.  My prayers are with the family.

Becky, I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.  She was a beautiful woman and the fact that she fought so hard just goes to show you that she had a strong spririt.  Cancer is just one of those things that is so hard to understand, I lost my mom when she was very young to cancer and when I hear stories like this one it just breaks my heart.  Again I will add you all to my prayers tonight and I hope that you all find peace and a way to live on with her in your heart.

Becky - This post brought me to tears.  I am so sorry for your family's loss.  Kourtney was a beautiful girl, and to lose her so early is very, very difficult.  I am including your post in today's Family Ties recap.

Becky- That was a heartwrenching tale and, as a father, it brought me to tears.  22 years young!  I cannot imagine the pain that your family is going through and I'm so sorry that you have to bear this pain. The love that surrounded this young woman over her final months is inspiring: she truly seems to be a very special woman who's spirit will live on.

Becky, dear. You have had so many losses lately. Much like Melissa. I am so sorry for you and Kourtney's immediate family and friends for losing such a delightful addition to this world. There is a reason for everything and kourtney is good. Those left behind have the brunt of the world to bare. Her goodness will live on and she would want just to be remembered with kindness and love.

You are a sweetheart Becky. Keep spreading your sunshine. It warms us all.

I want to thank all of you for your notes of love during our time of grief. You are all so very special to me. Life would not be the same if we didn't have our dear friends and family to lean on.

Becky,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of this beautiful young girl.  Wow.  So young and so full of life.  It is through crisis that we find out what we are really put together with, right?  My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends.  What an astounding witness to see the love that this family had for her and each other.  Beautiful.  Thank you for sharing!

Lorri Boatright, Kourtney's mommy

Thank all of you for your kind words..it helps to read that we are not alone..some days I feel very alone, because I lost my lil shadow, but I have to remember she shadows me from above now.

We are all just taking life day by day. One day at a time. Some are good, some are worse. I just have to remember she is not in any pain and will Never have headache or indure any of the pain she went through for 7 months. She was a tuff trooper. Again just thank you from all of us in Oklahoma, I can't just say Ardmore because Kourtney touched people from one end of the state tot he other. And as I read seems further then I will ever kow.

Lorri, None of us, unless we've lost a child, can truly know what you are going through.  I am so sorry for you, Kourney's husband and the entire family.  The world lost a light and is now shining in heaven, ready to greet you all some day.

Lorri, my sweet, sweet cousin,

I am so glad you read the Active Rain Blog and got to know some of my wonderful friends. As you can see, they genuinely care about you. Their notes have meant so much to me as I am sure they did to you. Please post anything you want us to know about Kourtney. This blog is a good way to express your feelings.

I love you Sweetheart!
