Many times we forget to say "thank you" to our fellow agents in the real estate business when they have helped solve a problem, been a great agent on the other side of the transaction, did their job after the sale all the way to closing, worked hard to make the buying or selling experience a good one for everyone concerned and showed a lot of class and style by being an exceptionally good agent. Of course, this is after negotiations are over and it is time to co-operate fully to ensure a smooth closing.
Even when negotiating, it is not necessary to be rude or to try to "leave someone bleeding in the street". You can be a great negotiator without doing that. Keep it professional, regardless of whether a client may loose their cool, it is your job to be the calm voice in the storm should upsets occur. Buyers and Sellers hire us for a reason; this is one of them. Selling a home and moving and/or buying a home and moving is a very stressful time for the families or individuals involved.
We both do that in a perfect world and we need to appreciate their professionalism as well. We will have enough agents who do almost nothing after the sale (not talking about those who have assistants) and their client ends up unprepared at the closing table. A recent example a selling agent relayed to me was the buyer's agent's clients did not bring a certified check to the closing table, it was a divorce and there was snipping and griping from one of the ex's throughout. Better to have them close at separate times rather than have this happen. If you know there are issues, plan ahead with the other agent & attorney to have them sign/close separately. It will be much less stressful for everyone involved.
So, thank them with a note or a phone call after the closing. The more of this we have, the better our business will be and the transaction will be easier for our clients as well. We know who we can depend on to do their job with their client. Make sure you are known as one of those agents.
Have a prosperous and productive rest of June!
Sheila
Great Post!!! When I had a great experience with and agent, I would send them a Thank you card and send their broker a note saying how much I appreciated the member on their team and how professional they were etc. You should always remember the other side, they are working just as hard as you most of the time to get things done.
