I don't know about you but I remember a few years back saying to myself. My kids have such an entitlement attitude when did this all happen? They have no idea how lucky they are living here in the SCV. I began sounding like every other parent as I shot back at the snotty new teens who had kidnapped my kids in the back seat. "I had to walk to school when I was a kid. I had to walk back, and forth to school 10 miles each way, barefooted, on broken glass, uphill, and that was on a good day! I would thank my parents each day for providing me with an opportunity for a great education! So stop whining about the air not being on high enough as we drive to the mall for crying out loud!

I remember thinking to myself how are my kids ever going to learn the "All American work ethic and that everything in life is not just handed to you in this town as we came to a stop? My thought process was interrupted by "But so and so, has this and so and so has that? Blah, Blah, Blah Where did I go wrong and how am I going to instill those types of values in my kids?. You know there is a price for those "priceless moments on those T.V. commercials! How are they ever going to experience that? I wish there was a way I could teach them this valuable trait.

Well as luck would have it with the downturn in the Real Estate Market I got my wish! As my income began to drop like my gas gauge on "empty" I began a new career as a result and although this lesson was supposed to be for my girls somehow I got thrown into the mix as well. As our possessions are slowly being peeled away month by month, week by week I am served up a daily dose of humble pie. Quite frankly I probably needed a slice or two but I'm good, no really that is enough pie big guy. I got the message, can I go back to how things were now, I think they got it now? Lesson learned, so whats up with this mirror?

You may have run into my twin who frequents the local WalMart and the 99 cent store now. If you see him tell him I said Hi , Oh and that middle aged fat guy mowing the front lawn around the short sale sign with a push mower down the street who you thought was the gardener to begin with a few years back . I understand he's on a new health kick just trying to lose some additional weight. The good news is I am not going through this alone folks oops did I say I?, all is not lost however. The good news is I have the good news and that there is hope and there is light at the other end of the tunnel. I know what your thinking, he's delusional or in denial. Survey says....  No!  This is one of those teachable moments we get in life we can either squander it in disappointment and despair, or be grateful that we are given an opportunity to grow in faith. Get up, dust ourselves off, and get back into the race. At least in this story my girls will have the benefit of actually experiencing this first hand rather than my slightly exaggerated walk to school story. O.K. Totally exaggerated walk to school story who's counting! Hope they learn something from all of this I certainly have.  Stay tuned for the rest of the story...

Ouch, OK, my teenagers are spoiled and I've been wishing they would get a does of reality, but this brings it home that I could get a big dose of reality too!  Here's hoping that you move on.  Lesson learned and prosper!!!!  You'll be in my prayers.
