Have you ever gotten emails supposedly from Nigeria or some other foreign nation promising to pay or give you money if you follow some steps?  I received the following email today offering me this supposedly great opportunity to serve some international clients from Nigeria and to possibly invest in our brokerage.  As much as I know we all love getting emails and calls offering us great clients, always beware and keep yourself safe!

I have included the email below.  This is a scam so if you receive anything similar, mark it as spam!

More than likely it is a scam but what made you think so, and where is his asking for money like normal lol? It seems to be one of the better put together ones I have seen if it is, he is only asking about buying a home not asking for your checking account # so he can put some check in it and you can keep 85% lol

Scams, scams, everywhere are scams, taking our money and killing our dreams! I just wrote a blog the other day about this.

I have not seen this one.  It is surprising they are not asking for more information from you. Probably on the follow up email.

Probably is a scam. this email will bait the hook, follow-up emails will set the hook if the bait is taken. If it's too good to be true...

First clue is that it is from Nigeria the scam capitol of the world. I have been getting e-mails from there for 10 years. Even if they get you there is nothing you can do. As a matter they don't even get upset when they get caught. Embarrased a little but that's all. There have been expos on telivision and still it goes on.

I decided that it was a SPAM before I even opened it since the subject was not formed like a usual one with the . spaced well after.  That and I'm a politically active person and know from experience that Majors and Congressman do not list their name in the "from" of their emails as "Mayor ..." or "Congressman ..." and save that for their email signatures.

Also, I do work in the luxury market of west Austin and 1) these clients start the dialogue with phone calls 95% of the time even if they are calling long distance and 2) they never have  reason to give me their full address on inital contact.

I agree with the comments that this email is just the bait and they plan on paying you by wiring money into your account, probably a large retainer since they claim to want not just a $1.5M home but investment properties as well.

I feel sorry for any good people that live in Nigeria!

I wrote back saying that I would be happy to help his family.  However, I required a $20,000 retainer fee to get started.  Suggested they mail the check to the Attorney General's office in our state with a note asking them to hold it for me until I could come down and pick it up.
