The market for multi-generational homes continues to grow. While the trend isn't new, the unique circumstances in 2020 created even more of an impetus for many families. Economics, a desire to be together, and emotional and/or physical support are key reasons families are choosing to live together under one roof.
We've been promoting and living the multi-generational lifestyle for a number of years. In fact, we are the first, and to our knowledge, only, REALTORS® who specialize in multi-generational homes in Clark County, Washington. A choice to care for elderly parents created our reason for sharing a home.
What an adventure it's been too. Our situation is a bit different in that my sister and her husband are also living with us at our rural home in Camas. A diagnosis of dementia for dad gave both of us a need to spend as much time as possible with him. We are fortunate our husbands bought into the plan. Literally and figuratively.
Dad, who suffered from dementia and congestive heart failure, is no longer with us. Therefore, nearly 94-year old mom is our current focus. Right now, she's recovering from hip surgery, but overall is doing quite well. A healthy diet and frequent social interaction is a big part of making sure she remains happy and engaged in life.
We've learned a lot in our years together. Things that work, and things that don't work. Like most relationships, frequent communication is key. If you'd like to read more about our learning process and experiences, visit our site MultiGenerational Homes and Lifestyles.
Currently, there are fourteen Multi-gen homes listed in Camas, Washington. Although, that doesn't tell the entire story. We are often able to identify homes for our buyer families that can be modified to accommodate their specific needs. If you're interested in learning more, call us. We love talking about this rewarding lifestyle.
