Multi-Generational Homes for Sale in Camas - March 2021

By
Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

The market for multi-generational homes continues to grow. While the trend isn't new,  the unique circumstances in 2020 created even more of an impetus for many families. Economics, a desire to be together, and emotional and/or physical support are key reasons families are choosing to live together under one roof.

We've been promoting and living the multi-generational lifestyle for a number of years. In fact, we are the first, and to our knowledge, only, REALTORS® who specialize in multi-generational homes in Clark County, Washington.  A choice to care for elderly parents created our reason for sharing a home.

What an adventure it's been too. Our situation is a bit different in that my sister and her husband are also living with us at our rural home in Camas. A diagnosis of dementia for dad gave both of us a need to spend as much time as possible with him. We are fortunate our husbands bought into the plan. Literally and figuratively.

Dad, who suffered from dementia and congestive heart failure, is no longer with us. Therefore, nearly 94-year old mom is our current focus. Right now, she's recovering from hip surgery, but overall is doing quite well. A healthy diet and frequent social interaction is a big part of making sure she remains happy and engaged in life.

We've learned a lot in our years together. Things that work, and things that don't work. Like most relationships, frequent communication is key.   If you'd like to read more about our learning process and experiences, visit our site MultiGenerational Homes and Lifestyles.

Currently, there are fourteen Multi-gen homes listed in Camas, Washington. Although, that doesn't tell the entire story. We are often able to identify homes for our buyer families that can be modified to accommodate their specific needs.  If you're interested in learning more, call us. We love talking about this rewarding lifestyle.

There is so much beneath the surface of this post.  Two siblings both wanting to join together in giving care and love for their parents.  Spouses caring so much for their wives that they support the decision.  While I am sure trying at times the warmth and love must be abundant.  Kudos

Debb,

Ron and I both admire your families and their response to caring for the multigenerational set.  It is a value that needs to be perpetuated among the young and upcoming.  Happy Saturday, A

Hi Debb and Bernie- and if I've never said this before, I applaud, you both as well as your sister and brother-in-law for what you are doing. My friend's mom is 102 and physically and mentally strong. She lives in a retirement community and loves the social interaction she gets. And, my friend is able to take her mother shopping and have her over for dinner. (Mom always wants to go home!)

I think the social interaction you have with your mother is so important.

I'm glad that you mention there are other great options. This is not the right deal for everyone, and we get it.  I'm sure many others would thrive in a retirement community. Actually, my parents could have gone that option, but didn't want to.
