Himalayan Blue Poppy, Meconopsis ‘Lingholm’, Longwood Gardens

The Himalayan Blue Poppies are now blooming in the conservatory at Longwood Gardens. The following announcement is from the Longwood Gardens blog.

What a way to kick off the Spring Blooms season! Only once a year do the sky blue blooms of our highly anticipated Himalayan blue-poppies (Meconopsis ‘Lingholm’) grace our Conservatory with their breathtaking beauty … and that time is now! Native to the high elevations of the Himalayan Mountains, each March our talented horticulturists force these rare beauties to flower here at Longwood, wowing us with their striking hue. We expect the blooms to be on view in our Conservatory for approximately 10 to 14 days. Join us for this once-in-a-year opportunity.
Please note: Tripod/monopod use and photo shoots are not permitted inside the Conservatory.

Those are beautiful! I wonder how they would do outside of a greenhouse? We can grow poppies in Central Oregon - something the deer do not eat - but are these so fragile that they couldn't survive in a "natural" setting?
