Join Me In Celebrating Take a Walk in the Park Day...Let’s Go!

 

Larry and I begin our day with a walk. When we lived in Delray Beach, our “park” was the beach. Every single day there was something new to see. 

 

Even though we’re no longer close to any beach, Houston and Harris County have more than enough interesting parks, preserves, and paths to help keep us moving. 

 

Did you know that the United States has 423 National Parks? Texas has 80 State Parks. 

 

Houston has 366 Parks, 200 Green Spaces, and over 125 miles of Hiking and Biking Trails. 

 

I’m not sure if they count the small neighborhood or pocket parks but you can walk there as well. 

 

There’s nothing like getting out and walking or hiking in a park of some sort...just ask Anna Banana Kruchten, Brian England, or Kat Palmiotti.

Good morning, Kathy... North Carolina can't quite match Texas for the number of state parks... we've got only 34. Then again, Texas is a much larger state with over 268,000 square miles compared to North Carolina's square miles of just under 54,000.

Thank you for the shout out! We take two walks up/down the driveway every day (it's a mile round trip) and then supplement that with walks up in the hills behind our home, or on any of the nearby hiking trails. We have a lot of options here!

Hi Kat- that is one long driveway!!!  I'd imagine that just doing your daily chores around the house and property will give you more than the recommended 10,000 steps a day.

Wow... that's a lot of parks.  You now have me curious how many parks Washington and my local area have. I know it's quite a few, including National Parks, State Parks, and various recreational areas and monuments.

Your park is lovely.  We made a point of taking time to explore all our parks here, and we have barely scratched the surface.  The beach remains a favorite of ours, it is within 3 minutes by car or 10 on foot.  Our latest projects have kept us closer to home.

Kathy, my busy time is the morning, so I usually do more early afternoon.   Walked almost 12,000 steps yesterday at the Wild Animal Sanctuary, and was 71 yesterday, snow today!
