Attention Arizona Taxpayers: Be prepared for the biggest bamboozle to hit your wallet within the year.  If you are not aware of this, please turn down the radio and listen closely.  Arizona is having a huge budget problem and the way our Governor and our State Legislators want to deal with this is to RAISE TAXES.  I just read about this in last week's newspaper.  These days' politicians are getting smart.  They are deciding to raise the tax that you the consumer will not notice the most.  They want to raise the Arizona State Sales Tax.  Supporters of this increase argue that this will be the easiest way for them to get little argument back from the public.  Most of us do not notice the tax when we buy goods and services.  So, they think they can just sneak one pass me and every other hard working taxpayer.

I just do not understand how you can fix a problem with a problem.  The taxes we pay are enough; they just do not want to tighten their belts like everyone else.  Our Arizona economy is very dependent on the housing market.  When that market is suffering tax revenue is suffering.  Guess what, it's time for the State of Arizona to cut back.

Part of the reason for our growth in Arizona has been to low taxes both on the residential and commercial side of things.  A raise in taxes will not fix the problem.

So when you go into the polling booth in November, please vote with your pocketbook in mind.  I sure will be.

Good post, Gary.  Why is it when times are lean government is the only one not tightening their belts?  Folks everywhere would do well to remember you can't tax your way out of a bad economy.

Jess,

Thanks for the comments.  My favorite part about this situation is the politicians think it's ok because it will be the least noticed tax.  At the end of a day a higher tax is a higher tax.  I just do not see the benefits outweighing the costs.

Gary,

You forgot that one of the tenants of governement is that there is no such thing as a recession in government, that only happens in the real world.

Bill-  Casinos and Government seem to be the only 2 sectors out there that are pretty much recession proof.  Thanks for the comment.

Gary, I don't get how you can solve a problem with another either.  I'm never surprised at what they suggest.

You know, I think it is time for another Boston Tea Party in this country. We fought the British only to lose again to our own government.

Higher taxes always equate to more government. That is bad for AZ. Damn politicians just don't get it.
