On ActiveRain and Other Social Media Outlets - Embracing our Referral Partners & Our Clients
I often wonder if in life, the default is negative? I really don't remember, in all of my life, hearing, seeing or sensing so much negativity. It seems that lately, I've heard more and more about our ActiveRain site as well as Facebook and other social media platforms - and how either users don't have the time to spend here/there or they just don't like anyone who differs from them politically.
For the record, this is not a political post! I've just noticed more and more over the past few years that if one doesn't agree with another, they are quickly discarded or labeled as an 'idiot' or some kind of 'tard' or something even more foul.
Then there are those whose noses so high in the air, it is obvious that they fear they may be breathing the same air as the rest of us! WAIT! Stop the presses...I was being negative - I apologize...back to the topic at hand!
It's so easy to fall prey to the negativity but, I really do believe that if we hold ourselves to higher standards and not allow ourselves to go down the negative paths, we can set the examples we were put on this earth to set. Yes, that is my own personal opinion but, I really believe in my heart, that we were not put on this earth to beat others down. We should, instead, be lifting them up.
With all of that in mind, I wanted to share a few things that have happened to me - JUST this week as a result of my participation here and on other social media platforms.
First, I received a call from an agent here in the Rain. He first thanked me for being helpful to him here in the Rain and also gave me the name of a seller of his who is moving to my area. We discussed the referral in detail and then moved onto the topic of ActiveRain. We talked about people here that we knew, the latest developments on AR and even discussed some great suggestions for keeping our sanity while we were experiencing growing pains in the Rain.
The entire conversation was uber positive and filled with laughter. We asked each other about other social media outlets and how we managed them. For me, not very well but, I continue to reap the rewards of being a participant!
After our conversation, I had two more social media incidents in as many days that I thought I would share with you.
Via Facebook, one of my clients private messaged me a link to a story in the news, asking me to be on the lookout for a vehicle in the area. The driver had attempted an abduction of her little sister and I couldn't get the message out fast enough - I shared it with my own friends, my clients and all of the agents in my area via a private agent FB page. I have been inundated with agents, friends and clients, all texting me, letting me how much they appreciate my sharing this story so they could share with their family, friends and clients AND asking how the little girl is doing.
Imagine how my faith in mankind is being restored with all of the response from that single post. This brings me to the most heartwarming story - from my Instagram account...
I have amazing millennials who adore Instagram (IG)! I have 'adapted' but, much prefer the comfort of FB. We can actually have a 'conversation' there and to me, that is meaningful. Many of my clients are on both platforms but, most of my millennial clients and friends of my boys are on IG.
One of my clients posted an ultrasound-type announcement of her pregnancy the other day. I commented to her, how excited I was for she and her husband and within minutes, I received a text message from her. She expressed her glee about growing their family but, wanted to share that they will need to find a new home and sell their current home within the next few months. She said my comment reminded her that she needed to call me!
Now, what if I hadn't paid attention to her exciting announcement on Instagram? What if her BFF, who, as it happens, is also an agent, had reached out to her and said, "Hey, it's time for a bigger house, isn't it?!" The icing on the cake - we toured a home this morning and her buyer agency agreement is now signed, along with their Offer to purchase their new dream home! This happened in JUST 3 DAYS!
The bottom line - if you're NOT on social media, you're missing out - not only on business but, on what is happening in your clients' lives. YES, I still do reach out to my clients - in fact, all of the time; I still have client events (pre-COVID) and STILL hear about news when it FIRST happens by being on social media. What if my next call to that last client wasn't until mid-April? I could have easily missed a big purchase and a really nice sale in a few months too...not to mention, being a part of their lives during this incredibly happy chapter for them.
So, don't let the naysayers convince you that all social media is evil...it's FAR from it! It all has to do with YOU and your view on life (a.k.a. attitude)!
