Richard Edmund LaMotta was born in Brooklyn, New York back in 1942 to Joseph and Mary. He graduated from the Brooklyn Technical High School. After graduation, he continued his education at Brooklyn College earning a B.S. in Economics. He then earned a J.D. from the New York Law School.
As a college freshman he developed his own record label. After negotiating with the college business office, music professors and executives at RCA, BMG Music, etc., he created a two-record album featuring recording for the Music 101 class, which was required of a City College of New York students. He sold more than fifty thousand albums. He died in 2010, he was 67.
What you may not know about Richard is that in 1981, he developed the Chipwich ice cream sandwich. He hired 60 students as street cart vendors to sell the Chipwich on the streets of New York City. Within a few hours they had sold 25,000. Just after two weeks the average was 40,000 a day. He sold the brand to CoolBrands International in 2002.
