Back to the refugees

Yesterday was a busy day.  Since the listing I have been getting up at 5 AM.   I have been trying to get a refugee family approved for a mortgage for a few weeks.  I think they would have qualified last year but the prices are up.

The first problem is the language barrier.   The best English speaker is their 15 year old son.   The father actually speaks some English and I can usually communicate.  I tried finding a loan officer who spoke Swahili but that didn't work.   My loan officer is dubious.   She will meet with them but probably more of a favor to me.  I said I would gather documents.   On the third meeting in my office we have completed a loan application and I have all the documents the loan officer needs.   Now I need to put the documents together and make sure I have the loan officers docs.  The grandparents also want a home but I do not think they have the income to support it.

If I could persuade them to live in one large house that might get the difference.  The market is very very high and inventory is very very low.   I do not know how to explain that to them.

So today I will get the loan officers attention and see where we are at.  I would love to help this nice family.  They are hard workers.  They have been here for less than 3 years and already they can hope to find a house to buy.  I have been in there apartment and it to small for their needs.   Of course I am coming from my own prospective.

The cool thing is that on the second meeting they all wore masks.
