Consumers seem to be tiring of the same old suburban type living. Developers are now focusing on building entire communities known as "transit villages." Such places offer homeowners maintenance free living in a convenient location that is safe and well planned.
To me the ultimate place to live would be a place where every convenience was available, without having to put a key in the ignition. I could shop, relax, work and eat all within a few steps of each other.
Now I am finding I am not alone in what I think is the ultimate place to live. Brand spanking new urban villages or transit villages are popping up all over the Denver metro area. Walkable living is coming back in to style.
Funny, it sounds to me very much like the small town I grew up in.
You don't know what you've got until it's gone...they've paved paradise and put up a parking lot. In this case the parking lot is cool, very cool.

Hi Kristal...The newer villages that are being established to provide this type of lifestyle are finding a number of takers. It certainly does have its appeal.
It would be wonderful if my grandchildren had the freedom now that I had as a child. Even my children had a wider world than young ones now.
Kathleen ~ I agree, the world is smaller for them in some ways, but yet there is much more opportunity to learn a variety of things. It will be hard for kids of the future to keep up with all they have to learn...
KK - I think it's way past time for these sorts of communities to be developed. We are seeing many more work/live arrangements with transportation and other types of communities that strive to improve the quality of life. I hope it continues.
We have the Sounder commuter train here in Washington. It runs from Tacoma to Seattle and on up to Everett. Over the past few years the ridership has grown, and people are taking advantage of the lower home prices here in Pierce County.
With the current gas prices and increased traffic on our over taxed highways it's a great way to commute.
Kristal, we are finally getting lots of lofts in Ann Arbor. The younger generation really doesn't want to commute all day like their families did. They like to walk and those lofts and walk to downtown homes sell for top dollar.
I think it is a great idea. It makes me think of some areas in Brooklyn where someone could stay in their neighborhood forever without having to go anywhere since all the conveniences were within walking distance.
I think this is a great idea...especially in Denver! Having grown up there, Denver is such a versitile town, urban loft living and transit villages just fit in there.
I'm glad to see the growing interest in these live-where-you-work communities. Transit or master-planned, the modern creation of what is really a traditional community is good to see. I'm hoping that the next step will be to start retro-fitting our sprawling bedroom communities to allow small stores and restaurants and rezoning commercial areas so living can occur where work happens too.
Kristal, you are not only not alone in your wishes, but for what I've read it seems that this kind of all inclusive community is projected to become the norm in the not too distant future. Did I just used "not" three times? I hope you understand what I meant. It's almost 2 in the morning. Too late to think!
