Middletown NY is one of the three small cities that are part of the fabric of Orange County. Located about 55 miles northwest of New York City, it has access to public transportation via a commuter train station and bus service, commuter and local.  The city and surrounding town of Wallkill have all the stores you could want including the Galleria Mall at Crystal Run, several national department and discount chain stores, six major grocery stores, and many other places to shop including a newly revitalized city center. The city is currently served by Orange Regional Medical Center at it's two locations, one in Middletown and one in Goshen NY, and construction has begun on a new state of the art facilty is due to be completed by 2011. The city boasts of a great library, the main campus of SUNY Orange (a two year community college program), and 14 public parks. There is a YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, 4-H, both Boy and Girl Scouting programs, and tons of other activities for children to become involved in.  There are many resturants, several movie theaters, a concert and live entertainment venue in The Paramount and many clubs with entertainment for adults.

I have been selling a lot of houses to clients who are excited to be moving to the Middletown area lately. There are some really great houses in wonderful neighborhoods that are available in the $180,000 to $250,000 range right now in Middletown.   The latest sale was of a house that had been built 60 years ago and still had the same owner. Many people who have spent their whole lives in the city are now ready to move on and they are selling to new residents who will help with the continued renewal of the city.  Taxes are relatively low compared to other areas and there is municipal water and sewer.  City residents also get trash pick up which many locations around the area do not have.

If you are looking for a place with the vibrancy and excitement of  a city at a great price, look to Middletown, NY.  You will be glad you did.

Easy to miss in the summer Scott but it sounds like you are a fan of warm weather and may not be ready for our winter fun.

Sonia thanks for the heads up.  If I hear of anyone looking for that area I will be in touch.  We have a lot of retired people heading for the Carolinas right now.

Fernando, I am sorry that you are not happy with your Middletown.  Why not come up for a visit to this one and see if you would like to change?

Paddy, My daughter is more familiar with your area then I am but the Hudson Valley is just gorgeous.  I hear many people are relocating to upstate New York and I do hope they are lucky enough to find and work with you!

Paddy, we are so lucky to live in the Hudson Valley.  I lived in Florida for 6 years, and although it was nice, it never felt like HOME.

Thanks Carole Will your daughter be back in New Paltz this year?

Hey Becky It is a beautiful place,  Florida's loss is our gain.

I know what you mean Jennifer it is hard to find prices below $200,000 anywhere in the Hudson Valley these days but there are some nice ones in and around Middletown that need some work but they can be great places with a little elbow grease.  There are more coming on every day in the low $200,000's in many locations.

Paddy, I have traveled through that area several years ago, and I must say that it is a beautiful area. Really did not care for the Big Apple though...

Different strokes for different folk Michael I like to visit occasionally for a show or concert but I am not a city girl.  I can appreciate those that are though, they would go crazy out in the sticks. Thanks for the comment.
