Discover Columbus What's a blog post without a link? Or two. Or more...

I am NOW having trouble with links on one of my blogs... my oldest blog, on RealTown...

This is a test

Is it me or is it the fckeditor?  No I am not being obscene that is what the editor on RealTown blogs is called.  The F in FCKeditor stands for Ferdinand?  Nope it is Frederico.
Frederico Caldeira Knabben to be exact.  The guy who developed the text editor's initials are FCK.  My friend Sandy Mattingly (another RealTown blogger) and I have had fun when the FCKeditor on RealTown blogs was well... shall we say messed up previously....

It can be frustrating when you can't use links in your writing when you are used to using links in your writing.  So it is better to vent the frustrations on the FCKeditor than chuck the computer out the window.  I don't want to even know what text editor a blog uses... I just want to link.

When we were going through a frustation with some links not working on our RealTown blogs we would see fck in the link... and Sandy and I talked about the FCKeditor frustrations.   I guess you had to be there...

Is it the FCKeditor this time?  That's what I am here to try to discover... can I do a link on ActiveRain?

Here goes...

Link

The results of the test

It works... I can do a link on ActiveRain so what does that tell me? That ActiveRain uses a different text editor? I already knew that... I think. The text editor is the last thing I want to be thinking about when I am trying to write a post.

I am not sure what I learned in this test. YET. I am trying to make this a learning experience.  I am trying to be scientific about it rather than emotional.  If I get emotional that's when the computer goes out through the window...

I am using Windows Vista now.  It is different.  The link in Link above is to a post where I tried ALL of the link options on the FCKeditor... none of them work for me.  I always do my links to open in a new window... or have since RT gave us the FCKeditor... back in the early days I had to use html on my RT blog blog for links? Or maybe it was just if I wanted a link to open on a a new page. Frustrations...

More Links because it feels so good

Here's my RealTown blog... it is my oldest blog.  It is my most highly  trafficed blog.  Discover Columbus

This is my friend Sandy's RealTown blog... linking feels good.  Go three days with out linking and see how you feel.  Sandy's blogs is about New York City real estate.  Sandy is a buddy from back in the old RT (RealTak) days...  Sandy's blog is not having any trouble with the fckeditor so it must be me...  (me and Vista.)

Sandy Matingly was among the first people I ever invited to ActiveRain but Sandy has stubbornly not joined.. here's one more try ActiveRain Invitation or anyone who wants to join in the conversations on ActiveRain. Anyone have any influence with Sandy? If Sandy was here we could talk about the FCKeditor.

Here's a link to fckeditor  See FCKeditor

...What did I learn.  I can do links on ActiveRain...

What the FCKeditor can I do?

Anyone here that can shed any light?  Anyone who understands this stuff...What I can do?  Is it a Vista / Fireox / fckeditor thing?  I am going to try to go back and write a post on my Discover Columbus blog on Internet Explorer and see if that makes a difference.  I believe I have only tried posting on Discover Columbus using Firefox since "the change."  keep using the scientific method... don't get frustrated...

Hmmm, another blog site to check into. Yikes, one could spend all day on these sites. Will check it out.

I posted a questiion about it on BlogTalk too.. to see if those on RealTown blogs have run into this.  To see if someone who's familiar with the FCKeditor can tell me what I am doing wrong.  Lisa I remember you from RT don't I?

someone asked me a question about what FCKeditor is via email

The text editor on a blog does things behind the scenes so we don't have to know how to write html or css.  We push a button (an icon) and it opens something up so we can insert a picture, make a link, bold text.

ActiveRain uses a different text editor...than my RT blog if it works well you should never be aware of the text editor.  All of the little icons above where we write are the text editor.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with the FCKeditor or RT blogs... I am experiencing frustrations with their text editor now.

Hmm, Maureen. I have two blogs on RealTown and post regularly, and add links when needed without any problems that I can see. I use Firefox and have for some time. Just went back to look at some recent posts and the links seem fine. Could be Vista or something else. I'd say an email to RT support is in order...but you probably already did that. Otherwise I am clueless. Good luck getting this sorted out - not a good thing, obviously.

Jeff I use Firefox sometimes and other times I use Internet Explorer... the only variable is the Vista (trying to sound scientific here.)  I checked to see if old links on my blogs worked.  They do.  I checked the links on other just posted RealTown blogs and they work... so it is me... or Discover Columbus...

This is day 3... of trying to get used to Vista... so far this is the only real problem.

thanks for the comment

Maureen, I am going to switch back to XP Professional. Vista just has to many hang ups with my older software. I hope your experience is better than my change has been.

I've been blogging on my RealTown blog for awhile...  It was born in August 2005.

I am having trouble using links in posts the last couple of days.   Old links in my posts work... but I trouble with the editor on adding a link within new posts.

Links <----  work?

What's changed?  New computer... Vista.  Help anyone?   Thanks in advance.

I've added a few links to my blog without a problem using ie 7 with Vista as well as firefox www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/. I also went to your blog post and added two links that appear to be working okay.  Could be that your internet explorer has an update that mine does not....I will let you know if I discover anything new.

I had asked about it in BlogTalk too.  Brian works for RealTown / Internet Crusade.  He also left a comment on my blog that he has no problem with links.

Thanks for the comments... thanks for the bday wish Mary.

Jun. 26, 2008 - This is a test

It works as long as I use Internet Explorer I can do links!  I was using Firefox earlier this week....  when I was trying to post content on my RT blog....

Maureen, FCKtheditor, these websites do their own editing. I had a little trouble following your blog, but if you want full control, you'll have to write your blogs in html. AR lets you go all html. When I have a blog that I want to have freedom and flexibility to make it do what i want, I write it in html.

Not sure if realtown lets you do this, I was on realtown when I became an e-pro, but found it very difficult to navigate. I also didn't like that it was completely censored and the moderators were constantly pushing their own opinions.

Ok Maureen. Now I'm embarrassed because I didn't put a link in the blog I just wrote... now positioned in the RL lineup right above yours. Criminy! Shouldn't I read before blogging??!!

Thanks for your again and always provoking (I mean THOUGHtful, yes that's it!). Really, you do have good ideas. <sniff>

I'll read first, next time!

Gina did it need a link?

Peter if you have trouble following just move along there's plenty to read on AR.

RealTown's editor lets you write totally in html... I actually like the way RT  switched back and forth  at first I thought "but if you want full control, you'll have to write your blogs in html" was dumb, but then I realized it's just your opinion.

I don't want full control, I want the editor to work, sorry I did not write that plainly for you.  I could write the posts on ActiveRain, my wp blog and my RT blog in html but what a waste of time.

Maureen, the way you responded to me is what's dumb and this is not just my opinion. Thank you, I will move on.

Hi Maureen,

I've been back on Realtown blogs using their editor and even posting html code in their source editor.  I have had trouble uploading photos lately because they've put some generic info in the box that is hard to remove and it's frustrating.  Are you still having issues?

I stopped posting there ... I posted a couple more after this... tests.  I could finally make links but the last thing I wrote on July 1 I could not change the font (my posts are always in comic sans) and there was something else I could not do with the editor.  With the new blogs on AR it may NOT be worth the bother at RT anymore....
