Some might argue that Manassas and the surrounding Prince William County are a stop on your way to destinations beyond.  I disagree.  You'd be surprised what we have to offer to brighten your day.  There's fun for all ages and interests.

Here are the top five things I'd recommend you do while you are in Prince William County, VA.

1.  Manassas Battlefield Park:  This one makes it to number one on my list because I love history.  The Civil War is a fascinating part of our past.  Walk the fields where battles that shaped our Country were fought here at Manassas Battlefield Park.  See the Stone House, what used to be a Civil War hospital.  You'll have a new appreciation for what soldiers went through in those days in the 18th century.

2.  Enjoy Scenery and Local Dining in Historic Occoquan, VA:  This is about a thirty minute drive from the Manassas area of Prince William County.  Occoquan is a quaint, waterfront town with some of the best places to relax and have a bite to eat.  Enjoy water views, food, small shops and a generally mellow afternoon or evening here.

3.  Visit one of the Largest Outlet Malls in the Country-Potomac Mills:  Okay, if you are a hardcore bargain hunter, this is the place for you.  Put on your walking shoes.  This place is HUGE.  Located in Woodbridge, Potomac Mills will give you a workout and save you big bucks on designer merchandise.  Whatever you want, it's there.  And not to worry, if you get hungry, there's food inside and all around the mall.

4.  Catch a Concert at Nissan Pavillion:  Music lovers....sit inside the pavillion, or bring a blanket and sit outside.  This concert pavillion attracts a lot of big name acts.  Just off of Route 66 in Bristow, VA (minutes from Manassas), if you are in the area on a weekend, there is a good chance someone is playing the pavillion.  Check out the Nissan Pavillion schedule and see if one of your favorite musical acts will be in town.

5.  Splashdown Waterpark:   Young at heart?  Or are the kids bored?  Put on your bathing suits and let loose!  Enjoy the water slides and other attractions of Splashdown Waterpark in Manaassas, VA.  If a boat ride is more your speed, Splashdown also features a lazy river boat ride.  They also offer tennis and volleyball.  There is plenty to keep you busy here!

22 Comments on The Top 5 Thing to Do When You're in Prince William County, VA

Chris Ann, what I really liked about this post is that it is so appropriate for all in the Prince William County area that want to do things but not drive very far with the higher gasoline prices. You've listed 5 fun areas to have a great time.

The Nissan Pavillion concert schedule is top name with variety. Brad Paisley to Rush to Snoop Dog to Rascal Flatts.

Richard:  I love trying to figure out who's playing the Paviliion when I'm passing the concert goers in traffic.  I live very close.  Jimmy Buffet is the easy one to spot.  Only then do you see inflatable sharks tied to the top of cars and trucks.

History is my favorite...so that is what I'd do first. A definite brochure for things to do in your area!

Kat, Liz and Sally:  If you any of you are ever in the area, you'll have to let me know.  There is a lot of history all around here.  And believe it or not, even though I grew up here, I still haven't been to places like George Washington's home Mount Vernon.

Who Forgets, or is Forgotten  OK Idon't know when I would be there as I am not a big traveller but I wonder if the Mannasas is from Menashah a Hebrew name of one of the 12 tribes if Israel. hmm another bit of trivia, and for the final points what does Menashah mean....... scroll over my picture for the answer

Ross:  A nice bit of trivia.  I have no idea what Manassas really means, but I think a lot of the things in this area were named for Native American things, or come from our early American History.

I would go with the historical first... I like doing the other things, but that is truly unique to the area. I toyed with putting historical tours on my list, but there are so many of them - Also, because of the area EVERYONE mentions the headless horseman bridge and Irvings home....that...which is not true in your case.

One of my favorite things to do when we travel is to see historical places...they really tell you about the area! Have been through there....have to stop a while next time.

07/02/2008 02:50 PM by Joan Mirantz- Concord New Hampshire Realtor (Keeler Family Realtors)

Ruthmarie:  There's a lot more history obviously in toward DC, but thought I would make it more specific to the area.

07/02/2008 03:52 PM by Chris Ann Cleland, GRI (Long & Foster)

Joan:  Call next time you are in the area.  I'll be happy to do the Battlefield with you!

07/02/2008 05:13 PM by Chris Ann Cleland, GRI (Long & Foster)

Chris Ann - Thanks for sharing.  I'm always driving through on the way to DC; maybe I should think of Manassas as a destination.

07/03/2008 11:35 AM by Pam Dent - REALTOR Charlottesville Virginia Homes and Horse Farms (Real Estate III)

Pam:  It's not a bad place. I'll show you around here, if you'll do Monticello with me.  I have been really wanting to get down there.

I could sure use a waterpark experience right about now!  It sounds like there is lots to do there, thanks for the info.

Chris, well, I've done the middle three of the five on your list.  Perhaps one day I'll tour the battlefield.

07/04/2008 08:18 AM by Brian Block -- Northern Virginia & D.C. Real Estate (RE/MAX Allegiance)

Brian:  You should come on out.  There's a great walking trail near the Stone House.  It's a great thing to do when the leaves are changing in the fall and the weather is cooler.

07/04/2008 11:16 AM by Chris Ann Cleland, GRI (Long & Foster)

Georgina:  I definitely love the water attractions on hot summer days.

07/04/2008 11:16 AM by Chris Ann Cleland, GRI (Long & Foster)

Tom:  Come on out.  We're even building more and more hotels for you to pick from.  :)
