Soon The Flowers Will Soon Be In Full Bloom
We are in the middle of our April showers and very soon we will be in full bloom with May showers and for anyone looking to see a sea of color, then a visit to Elizabeth Park in West Hartford CT is just the place.
Elizabeth Park is a city park located in Hartford and West Hartford, Connecticut. It covers 102 acres and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site was previously owned by financier Charles M. Pond of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad and Hartford National Bank, and a treasurer of Connecticut. In 1894 he bequeathed his estate to the City of Hartford with the stipulation that it be named for his deceased wife, Elizabeth.
The design of the park was done by the Olmsted Brothers, the successors to the landscape architecture firm to Frederick Law Olmsted, the same company that designed Central Park in New York City And Fulton Park in Waterbury CT.
There are always visitors meandering through the park especially as there is so much to see. On some Sunday afternoons, they once held live concerts there and one could appreciate the sounds while being awed by the flowers.
On some weekends, one might also catch a game of cricket played on the adjacent pitche's. They are well attended and can get rowdy as well.
Full information on the park and events held there can be found on the Elizabeth Park web site.
