New Housing Permits, Starts, & Completions March Of 2021

On April 16, 2021, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide housing building permits gained 2.7% to 1,766,000 units in March of 2021 from 1,720,000 units in February of 2021, and rose 30.2% from 1,356,000 in March of 2020. Single family building permits increased 4.6% to a rate of 1,199,000 units in March of 2021, from 1,146,000 units in February of 2021, and there were 508,000 multifamily building permits issued in March of 2021.

Nationwide housing starts jumped 19.4% to 1,739,000 units in March of 2021, from 1,457,000 units in February of 2021 and higher 37.0% from 1,269,000 units in March of 2020. Single family starts soar 15.3% to a rate of 1,238,000 units in March of 2021 from 1,074,000 in February of 2021, and there were 477,000 multifamily building starts in March of 2021.

Nationwide housing completions gained 16.6% to 1,580,000 units in March of 2021 from 1,355,000 units in February of 2021, and increased 23.4% from 1,280,000 units in March of 2020. Single family completions up 5.3% to a rate of 1,099,000 units in March of 2021, from 1,044,000 units in February of 2021, and there were 476,000 multifamily completions in March of 2021.

Hello John,  I can not believe the price of wood that has gone up and talking to a builder last week mention why the prices are going up in new homes.

John, thanks for the housing starts update, and we are seeing a HUGE number of new homes going up, and still not enough inventory.
