All About Knoxville Tennessee
Last week I had the privaledge to attend a sneak preview of Mike Myers'The Love Guru. I never really thought about who sponsored the tickets or anything like that. When I arrived at the theater it hit me that someone had to be behind this sneak preview as "free" is not alsways "free". When we were let into the theater without payment, I knew there had to be an explanation. Once in, it became clear that 2 of the most popular stations in Knoxville was behind this sneak preview.
With the day and age of Sirrus and XM, local stations have taken a beating. With that said, local stations are the ones that are out in the community. I have to wonder when the last time Sirrus or XM sponsored a sneak preview or an arts festival or dogwood festival or any event in your hometown. In that same thought, when was the last time you saw your local radio station out in the community?

Radio stations likeHot 104.5 FM and Star 102.1 FM are the ones that continue to be on the streat corners, in the malls, in the shopping centers, are the car lots, at the furniture stores, and anywhere else that there is a local business or charity that requires there services. But the services are not limited to paying customers. Radio stations like this are the ones that give back to their communities by bringing in sneak previews or concerts or whatever else they can get behind.
With all that said, support the people that support your community.

Danny,
I'm married to a film critic (retired now) and we've been to hundreds of "radio sneaks." Here's how they happen: The studio's publicists determine which radio station has the best "reach" to the demographic they perceive a particular film should appeal to. Then they offer free tickets to that particular station to give away as they promote the film to their listeners. So it's the studios that actually pay for the screenings to get the word out about that particular movie.
And they use different stations for different types of films.
Best,
Ed
