The Flood of '93 compared to the Flood of '08!

By
Real Estate Agent with St. Charles County, Missouri - Prudential Alliance Realtors

Have you been wondering how the flood of '93 compares to this year's flooding?  I have, so I did a little research.

In 1993, hundreds of levees failed along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.  So far, 31 levees have been breached between southern Iowa and St. Louis and more are threatened.

In 1993, more than 50 people were killed.  This year, the death toll is up to at least 24.

This year, flood waters on the Mississippi are not expected to rise over 40 feet in St. Louis.  That's almost 10 feet lower than in 1993.

1993's flood was from May through September.  We have yet to see how long this one will last...

Thanks for yout tasking the time to provide us with this information in the Active Rain network.  AR is the new "cyber backbone" of the industry, and with it's uplink to Localism.com it will transfrom the marketplace. Agents who don't see which way the cyberwind is blowing are going to find themselves at a considerable disadvantage inside of three to five years.

That's amzing that as bad as this flooding seems it still does not touch the severity of the 1993 stuff.  Scary!

Debi, thanks for providing the perspective. As bad as the current situation is - and not wanting to diminish it in any way - it has been worse.

Stacey-Ann & Steve - They are saying that "it isn't over yet", but I think it won't match '93.

Debi.. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this years flood does NOT cause as many casualities and that the leeves hold up.  This country has had enough problems and stress.. and not mother nature made.

Valerie - They are now concerned about the recent rain up north and the rain that is forecast the rest of this week.   It's not over yet...

By the way, is your son any better?
