I recently read this article and thought it was interesting. It talks about site such as Zillow.com not having as  acurate of information as what many people might think they do. Many people go to these sites every day to get info on different areas, but they could possibly be misinformed.

That shows that the best way to get the information on a specific market is still through a good Realtor. A Realtor knows what is happening in their area and can access the specific information you need for pricing homes properly based on accurate information.

Technology is a great thing, but for now their just is no replacement for a good professional.

What do you think about this?

3 Comments on Home-Value Web Sites Not As Reliable As They Want Us To Believe

I totally agree with all of this, a great realtor knows their market area and I have found that alot of different people state that sites like zillow and other home value sites truly do not have accurate value information, some may be off as much as 50k, so I think you are right, a good realtor is the key to the value of your home.  Great question, gets us all thinking..

I work at Zillow and I think you are right too!  A realtor is most definitely the best place to get the most accurate information.  AVM sites are just starting points. We try to be as transparent as possible about our accuracy.  We are one of the only valuation sites that actually publishes our accuracy numbers for your specific county.  Please find the chart here- http://www.zillow.com/howto/DataCoverageZestimateAccuracy.htm

Thanks for the comments. I agree that Zillow and other AVM sites are good starting points when a consumer is just wanting some basic info. But when it is time to get serious they definately want a professional by their side.
