Proper Phone Placement at Dining Room Table

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

There has been some discussion about where to place your phone at the dining room table or to keep in it your purse of pocket. It is correct to keep your phone in purse or pocket if you are wearing an Apple Watch so you can see who is calling, texting and other notifications. Also, if you are having face to face conversation the wearing of one AirPod is acceptable but wearing of two is considered rude. If you receive a call from prospective buyer or seller all the above does not apply. Follow me for more proper etiquette for REALTORS®

We do have to be considerate of others with our crazy lifestyle, you have your AirPods in your ear your phone rings and nobody else hears the rings and all of a sudden you start talking.  I am trying to get in the habit when I’m around other people to announce that I have an incoming call I need to take.  Same with my watch, I’m talking face to face with somebody and my watch vibrates I automatically look at it and I’m sure it is distracting to others.  I promise I will do a better job!

I disagree with this one! I believe when eating with other people at a table, the place for a phone is in a pocket or bag where it will not disturb the face-to-face communication and experience. And I also think taking phone calls when at a table with someone is only okay if it's a real emergency.

I went on a first date with someone many years ago, and he was on the phone with some company the entire time. Seriously, we ordered food while he talked. We walked while he talked. He wanted a second date. Haha, too funny. No, dude.

I do believe that in the next room on silent is the best place. An hour with no electronics will not destroy a career.

Thank you. I wouldn't want to embarrass myself by placing my phone in the wrong place on the table.  LOL   Seriously, I turn my phone off and it's NEVER even in sight during a meal.
