Zoomin' On ActiveRain With Ben Kinney 4.27.21
Another Tuesday, Another Zoom Call and while they are at a difficult time for many, they are a wealth of information. The Zoom call this week was to get an update on the changes being undertaken to upgrade and restore the power of our ActiveRain blog.
There was the cast of usual characters that attend the calls regularly, and even a face from the past that many of us remember well from RainCamps. Anybody remember the energetic Bob Stewart
But I digress.
Ben talked about trying to get as many improvements done as possible and has a team of developers working to get it done, but it all takes time. Any work done needs to be thoroughly thought out and all the error possibilities considered so as to not make a larger issue when implemented.
Casey Saunders was on the call as well. Casey is part of the development team and was taking over for Josiah Ubben who felt going on vacation was more important than being harassed by ActiveRainers
The call was more of a feedback call than a 'this is what we've done', and the feedback from the 'audience' appeared to be appreciated.
The 'Tagging' feature that we use to let a fellow Rainer know that they have been mentioned in blog or comment is close to being resolved.
Getting the SEO improved is a continuous task and they are working to restore the site to the stability we enjoyed before Trulia diverted the focus to compete with Zillow at that time and we lost our individuality on the Internet. This is a primary goal of the team and they are working to not only get us back to what we once knew but also upgrade to make it more powerful. All of which takes time.
Smaller suggestions which would make our presentation and actions on the platform were offered.
Getting the task bar to work to allow for a bullet point sequence to be used.
Returning the number sequencing to comments as it made it easier to track acknowledgment replies.
Fix the bell icon at the top of the page so that it not only lets us know that someone has made a notation to our blogs in addition to just a number. If you use this you will recognize that it currently requires that we leave whatever page we are on to go back to our home page to see what the alert is for.
For re-blogs, fix the symbol on the post so that the original writer will know who re-blogged the post and not just a number to indicate a re-blog.
Along with that, it as suggested that when re-blogging, the feature photo be carried over as well as some people do not use a lot of images or graphics in their posts and the blog becomes wall of words.
Return the report feature to the blogs. In the past, if we saw a post that was questionable as pertaining to real estate, we could report it and get the interloper removed. Many of us remember the Ugg footwear posts of the past.
All of the suggestion were noted and will be addressed as it was recognized that the developers do not have a familiarity with the original nuances of the platform and the suggestions give the guidance.
It was noted that the new look of the platform is cleaner and more uniform. They are working to make it as user friendly and effective as they can to allow us to get the Internet exposure we used to enjoy and are hoping to see again in the not too distant future.
There was definitely points that I missed, and as I needed to run to another client, I did not make the final minutes of the call
