Madeline Island Fireworks Fund Seeking Donations for July 4th Display

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Madeline Island Realty 50317-90

As of mid-June, the Madeline Island Community Fireworks Fund had raised only $2750.  That is just over one-third of the total amount needed to produce the Island's annual Fourth of July fireworks display in downtown La Pointe.

Each Fourth of July, an estimated five thousand people attend the Madeline Island community parade and the fireworks display.  Contributions generally come from area businesses, Island residents and visitors.

This year's funding shortfall potentially threatens an Island tradition.  Funds go to pay for the fireworks, safety crew, transportation and liability insurance.

For information on how and where to contribute, please contact the Madeline Island Chamber of Commerce, or send a check to:

MICC Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 274, La Pointe, Wisconsin 54850

I just hope we get some fireworks this year. For the last few years, every time the 4th of July rolls around, we're in the middle of a "burn ban". Just yesterday, a fire started during a thunder storm, just a few hundred yards from our house. Thankfully the rain put it out quickly.

Lisa, it would be a real bummer if your fireworks display got canceled because of fire danger conditions!

Our fireworks display is launched over water, from a breakwater/jetty about 100 yards offshore.  So we're pretty safe when it comes to limiting the fire danger aspect of the display.  We just need to find the dough to pay for it!
