I read Juliet Johnson's blog today about getting a #1 Google position with her Squidoo Lens for a property she staged  in NJ.  Afterwards,  I was inspired to do one for a NC waterfront property that I recently staged.. I had checked out Squidoo a while back but had never attempted my own lens... I was a little frustrated with all the choices that I didn't understand - so I posted my comments on Juliet's blog that I needed a Squidoo coach... WOW, she so kindly offered to help with my lens if I shared my "Room In A Box" with her - my answer, yes GLADLY !!   That's our wonderful AR family in action - thank you Juliet !!

I have used my  "Design A Room In A Box" at fund raisers, staging/decorating presentations and a high school auction - with great response.. I have included a gift certificate for a One Day Room Redesign also..

I choose a fairly large decorative container, I love the nice leather covered ones with handles - normally used for office files - but be creative. You can use any type of container which can be later used in the room. Then I choose a color palette from a decorative pillow, throw or fabric..

I choose several throw pillows to co-ordinate the color palette, tassels, some candlesticks or other accessory, some greenery - then LOTS of tissue paper in coordinating colors stuffed around the items and viola - You have a "Design A Room In A Box" !!  OF course, ADD your Home Staging & Interior Redesign brochures and any flyers about your business.    This is even more fun than stuffing an Easter basket !!

These would be great for trade show booths - you could do a smaller one and have a drawing for it... The possibilities are endless..

UPDATE !!!  I just remembered - make something similar to this for weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, etc - it's very MEMORABLE and everyone will want to know who brought it - thereby creating an opportunity to talk about your  Staging and Redesign business !!!!

Cheryl ~ What a great idea and thank you for sharing it!  There have been times I've been asked to donate an item for a fundraiser and this would be perfect.  Just how big is this "fairly large" decorative container that it holds several throw pillows?  (The size of a storage tote?)

06/25/2008 05:06 PM by Kathy Passarette, L.I. Staging/Decorating (Creative Home Expressions)

Kathy, Thanks so much, I LOVE doing these.. The one above - I STUFFED 2 throw pillows in and it would be a small container size.. I don't have the measurements but you can play with it.. Just find a nice container, then figure out what you can cram in it and it still be beautiful !!

Kathy - they really create attention - I carried two over to the high school and actually had a student help me carry one in.. Everyone was doing a double take.. Many years ago, we had a balloon and gift delivery business and this reminds me of the ooohs and aaahhhs we always got when delivering balloons.. God bless - hey you HAVE to share when you make one !!

It's doesn't surprise me that Juliet offered to assist as she's always so gracious with her time and expertise!

I'd love to see a picture of your box idea.  It sounds fabulous and no doubt would be a room pleaser.

Hi Kathy,  Are you not seeing the photo of the box??? Let me know - please.. I see it ;-)

06/25/2008 05:39 PM by Cheryl Gilliam Home Staging-Hickory NC (Just Heavenly Decor & Design)

Cheryl- Sounds like a great idea! I did a giveaway at a Realtor's Association meeting with the theme of Smell:One of the Five Senses of Staging. I filled a basket with scented candles, Potpourri, sachets, a reed diffuser, etc. I bought everything at discount stores like Big Lots, the cost including the basket was $20, and it was a huge hit!

Okay, that's weird.  No, I don't see the box.  I do see a box with a red x in it.  Perhaps it's my browser?  I've hit refresh but... still don't see it.

Kathy

06/25/2008 06:27 PM by Kathy Nielsen, Atlanta Home Stager (Georgia Interior Solutions, LLC)

Cheryl ~ The picture is not showing up for me either - it's just the box with the x in it as Kathy N. said.

06/25/2008 06:42 PM by Kathy Passarette, L.I. Staging/Decorating (Creative Home Expressions)

Wow, what a great idea.  I have a charity event coming up for which I can use this idea, and I can't wait to do it for a realtors meeting.  THANKS!!

Elaine,  Your "scent" basket is a great idea...

Kathy N and Kathy P. Thanks for coming by - strange - at my office I could see the picture but now on my laptop - I got the red X  I just tried to replace the photo so I HOPE you can see it now...

Lora, you have to share with us when you make a Design Box..

Ronelle, Thanks so much = borrow away... God bless,

CAN someone please let me know if the picture is showing up now - please !!!

06/25/2008 08:48 PM by Cheryl Gilliam Home Staging-Hickory NC (Just Heavenly Decor & Design)

What a great idea! Ahhh... the possibilities! You could do a different box for different rooms in the house - one for the dining room, one for the kitchen, one for the master bath......whatever you wanted to do.  I love this idea!

Having a "design a room in a box" drawing at a realtor's meeting would be a great idea, too.

Thank you for sharing this!

Cheryl ~ It's there now.  Wow, it does make quite the visual presentation!

06/26/2008 06:12 AM by Kathy Passarette, L.I. Staging/Decorating (Creative Home Expressions)

Cheryl, this is soooo simple, I love it!!  And I love Elaine's add-on for the 5 senses of staging (which I also blogged about, but will refrain from referring to here.  You have given me way too much airplay as it is!!!)

Ya know, we might have a little side business here, people....man, I've got to stop thinking!!  Off to a client with a yappy dog.  Where are my earplugs?

I have heard of the "colors in a box" concept where paint colors were selected, but not all of the fabric and accessory options as well. Sounds like a great idea.

Cheryl,

I am bookmarking this one- Mark and I are doing a trade show in the fall, geared towards just women, and I am so using this idea for door prize drawings- I love it- thank you for posting this, and even more thanks for including a beautiful picture of your cesign a room in a box! I see how these could become themed- like: Design-a-Bath-in-a-Box, or Design-a-Porch-in-a-Box, or for Mark's Organizing side of our biz: Organize-a-Closet-in-a-Box, LOL!

You are very creative!

06/28/2008 10:54 PM by Mark and Leslie Hoyt ~ Hello Home! (Hello Home!)

I love your idea, too, and am thinking of ways to use it for my home.  I'm also thinink of ways that I could do something for my husband's listings, to make the box more masculine.  Any ideas?

06/29/2008 09:09 AM by Karen Nichols (HomesNFlowersNThings)

Hey!

I have an idea, Karen, for masculine boxes: Use a large plastic toolbox filled with tools, a bucket filled with car-detailing products, a large tub filled with movie-type gifts... that's all I can think of now...

~Leslie

06/29/2008 11:16 AM by Mark and Leslie Hoyt ~ Hello Home! (Hello Home!)

Leslie and Mark, Thanks so much, love your ideas, especially the masculine ones.. BE sure and post the ones you do so we can see - please ;-)

Karen - Leslie gave some great ideas - they all are great but the car detailing one is pretty universal..   God bless you all..
