Covenants, HOA's, need to be updated? - what a process

If you live in a community with outdated covenants, you may be considering updating them.  The rules may be outdated, they may not cover many of the items that are common in all new C&R, and they may have been written simply to enusre the builder/developer was able to complete the neighborhood and have controlling rights.

It seemed like a reasonably interesting process, so when my neighborhood asked for volunteers to update ours, I thought 'why not'.  I should have a reasonable knowledge of such documents, and this may be a great way to learn more.

After dozens of committee meetings, draft after draft, edit after edit, neighborhood updates, annual meeting updates, attorney meetings, writing by-laws from scratch-there were none, and on and on, I can report that I was correct.  It is an experience and a process where there is MUCH to learn, and you may feel like that little buffalo being attacked by the alligators.  He got away, so my hopes are up.

We have been working for over a year, and we seem to be making some progress.  But, I can report that the issues and process are much more complex than our neighborhood board thought.  And certainly, as a volunteer, this sure feels like work!
