A Very Efficient Real Estate Market

In Denise Lones article "How To Insulate Yourself Against Negative News Reports", in Broker/Agent Professional Magazine, May/June 2008 edition, she recommends agents to think about what the media throws at us about not only negative press about real estate but many other issues they report on.  Since joining active rain all of the comments I've received from readers/members are very positive of the industry and about how many agents are adjusting to "just another business cycle".

I'm not sure there is a cure for the media's hype, especially since they need to air hype to sell air time, nor a cure to our human nature to see and listen to the "breaking news".  When I wake up and turn on the news, I see "losers" who have robbed a convenience store, "losers" who couldn't control their booze and crashed their car into another, "losers", people who have no negotiating skills and shoot someone in an agrument and either flee or shoot themselves.

I quickly turn to the Internet and continue the day sorting through the news, internationally, nationally and local news, looking for relevant news for me in the real estate industry.  I sift through many articles that have no hype but reports of facts, boring as it may be.  And the facts point in a positive direction of reconstruction of neighborhoods, new homes still selling just not as fast, pre-existing homes sales good and continue to sell, people moving in and out of cities throughout the US, Europeans moving here and buying homes, etc.  I'm in North Texas and the brunt of the "so called" real estate crisis has had some effect but I'm still selling, showing, following up leads, mailings, open houses, and more marketing.  Pretty much the same thing I was doing when this was a "fabulously exhuberant" market.

I've got to go and write up an offer.  Keep the faith, educate yourselves, know your market and be positive.
