Cell Phone Upgrade Required for Hearing Aids

Chef Dolores ordered new Oticon hearing aids to replace her old ones that are six years old. She discovered that her new Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is not compatible with the new hearing aids. We went to Verizon and upgraded her phone to the new Samsung Galaxy S215G.

By the way, the $6,000+ cost of new hearing aids is not covered by Medicare. Can you imagine the number of seniors who are unable to afford these expenses?

Oh my, that is quite a pricetag for hearing aids Roy. Glad you found the solution to accomodate Chef Delores' needs for her cell phone use.

Oh wow, Roy! I had no idea about Medicare and hearing aids. But I have a very comprehensive supplemental policy with United Health Care. Will need to check their coverages. The good news is that I don't need any assistance with my hearing as yet and my Galaxy S21 works for me. But interesting that it's not compatible with some hearing aids. So glad you were able to get a solution with another Galaxy phone. I love my Galaxies.

Both my parents, at 100 and 98 have hearing aids and neither one of them has a use for a cell phone. So no issue there except for the cost of the batteries in the aids.

Good morning Roy. Just when you think you have the problem solved with new hearing aids you find the need for a new cell phone. Glad you were able to accomodate. Most, as you pointed out, are not that lucky. Enjoy your day.

That is interesting.  I am thinking that my Dad is wanting to get hearing aids, but his phone certainly isn't as updated as chef Dolores' initial phone before the upgrade, haha.

Roy - yes that is right.  It certainly is a big number for those who don't have the resources.

Roy, interesting phones are not compatible with hearing aids.  I would think with all the technology that is available today, it would.

Im happy to hear that chef Dolores has new set of hearing aids. I learned last year that they are not covered by medicare when my mother in law needed to replaced them. I though the same thing about how other seniors can't afford them as they are ridiculous  expensive.

I have a couple family members who require hearing aids.  I have been astounded at the cost for them.  Like prescription drug prices, I think hearing aid price sould be investigated!  It would be interesting to learn how much they cost in other countries.

HI Roy- I can't imagine that hearing aids aren't covered by Medicare. Neither of us needs them (yet) but I'm going to check to see if my supplemental covers it.
