Mask Mandates And Capacity/Gathering Limits Lifted In North Carolina

North Carolina Lifts Most Indoor Mask Mandates & Mandatory Capacity/Gathering Limits

It's been a long, long year... but today life in Charlotte and in North Carolina is getting back to normal as much as possible with the lifting of most indoor mask mandates (outdoor mask mandates were lifted a few weeks ago). On the South Carolina side of our border, the indoor mask mandates had already been lifted some days ago.

Masks are still recommended for the unvaccinated, in accordance with CDC guidelines. They are still required in schools, health care settings, prisons, public transportation, nursing homes, homeless shelters and daycares. Masks are also “strongly recommended” at large crowded indoor events like sporting events.

Businesses such as retail stores, shopping centers, restaurants, event venues and bars can still enact their own mask requirements. Many are now reviewing their mask requirements and I wouldn't be surprised to see many businesses begin to life their mandates in the coming days and weeks.

Effective immediately, the Governor has also lifted all mandatory capacity, gathering limits and physical distancing requirements.

So start throwing those masks away... and let's see those smiles we've been missing for the past year. As Nelson Mandela said "remember to smile."  And today we have a lot to smile about.

“Look back, and smile on perils past.”

... Walter Scott

Hi Nina- we've never worn masks outdoors when we're out on our walks although I still see some wearing them. Our Governor dropped the mask mandate some time ago although he left it to individual businesses if they chose to require them.

Morning Nina.

Our mandate was lifted about two months ago.  One can still find those who wear a mask even while in a vehicle with no one else in the car.

Hannah Williams hi Hannah... well, I certainly can't totally throw all my masks away as some businesses still require them. But I am retiring the majority of them asap!

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS hi Paul... we were expecting the indoor mask mandate to be lifted around June 1st, but with the new CDC announcements, "Christmas" came early this year.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... I'm a big supporter of your governor and not just because of the way he handled the covid situation.

Nina- he has done what many other Governors were afraid to do!  Our numbers have continued to decline and businesses have been open since last year.

Endre Barath, Jr. hi Endre... I have been following that story at my end. Our restrictions recently started getting minimized because our governor's poll numbers kept dropping. I have no doubt in my mind this was a political decision that could be rationalized with some science, albeit somewhat late.

James Dray hi James... I was very envious of your early lifting of mask restrictions. The people who wear one when alone in a car or on the street have always puzzled me.

Nina, I believe our Governor lifting the mask mandate also, but in showing, we are still seeing listing agents requiring masks and sanitizing.

Rocky Dickerson hi Rocky... now we need to have private businesses fall in line. I was in a building last week calling for 10 foot distancing. 10 foot distancing was never talked about... and the CDC has known for ages the risk of infection whether it's three feet, six feet, 10 feet or 60 feet is about the same.
