Can a car, Have MOLD?

Let's talk about this.

My name is David Snell and I have been dealing with Water Removal and Mold Removal since 1987.

So, let us get into the subject of Water Damage to your car and Mold Removal.

Yes, Mold can grow on your car and in your car.  There are many ways that Mold can grow on your car or in your car and we are going to discuss some of the ways.

Is your car clean?  If your car is not clean, on the out side then Mold can grow on it.  One way you can limit Mold from growing on your car is to keep your car washed and waxed.   You see when the car is dirty, Mold has some thing to attach itself  too and feed on.  See above photo.

Now, lets dive into the inside of your car.  Do you have a cabin air filter?  Do you have a HEPA filter inside your glove box and it has not been changed?  I would suggest you change this at least once per year if you want your filter to work its best and keep the inside air, cleaner.  If your HEPA filter in your car, is not cleaned or changed regularly, then the air your breathe, will not be as clean as it could be and should be.

Let us also discuss spilled drinks in your car.  When was the last time you spilled a drink in your car?  It could be on the seats or on the carpet?  Let us remember that the seats have cushions and your car has carpeting that has padding to it and this makes things absorb into the cushion or padding of the carpet.  Remember, Mold can grow on seats and cushions and carpeting so we want to immediately dry up the moisture from the spill.  You can use a dry cloth that is absorbant as well as a fan to get things dried out quicker.  You also might consider flushing the carpet or seat with a carpet cleaning machine.  I would also spray a Earth Friendly or Organic spray, such as an Antimicrobial application to  surfaces of Carpet and Seating. DO NOT USE BLEACH ON YOUR CARPET OR CAR SEATING.  If you do not know how to do it, please call a professional, who does this for a living.

Another way to get moisture into your car, is leaving your car windows down and it raining and the moisture goes into the car.  This can work the same way with a sun roof.  Also, parking your car in a Moldy garage.

I recently had to clean a lot of mold off the seats - they were folded over for a month or two and the car has not been used much.  What a nasty surprise to find it!  Apparently there is a small leak along the window seal and water was getting in and dripping onto the carpet in the back seat.  Now I check on the car more often!
