Something About Quotes. . .

I have long enjoyed quotes.  Reading them.  Being inspired by them.  Learning from them.  Wondering about them.  Nodding my head with them.  Disagreeing at times too.

On ActiveRain, I like quotes as they take center stage or are included as part of a post.  They will catch my attention for those reasons and many more.  I wonder about the thoughts of others on many topics, so that’s the direction I am taking today as I have found quotes on the subject of quotation.   Of course, as you might expect, what I have found is diverse.

Typically thought-provoking.   Sometimes clever or an unexpected twist.  Occasionally snarky(I wonder if that was the intention or could it be something else?).  I especially like it when there is the possibility of multiple interpretations - by me at different times and with different circumstances as well as by others as they express their reaction. Here are some:

Most people are other people.  Their thoughts are other someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.

Oscar Wilde

Quotation:  n.  The act of repeating erroneously the words of another.

Ambrose Bierce

An apt quotation is like a lamp which flings its light over

the whole sentence.

Letitia Elizabeth Landon

The wisdom of the wise, and the experience of the ages,

may be preserved by quotation.

Isaac D’Israeli

I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by

someone recognized wiser than oneself.

Marlene Dietrich

May the wondering continue. . .  As if you had any doubt.

Michael Jacobs hi again, Michael... for me that is the mark of a good quote... the words stand the test of time and big changes in culture and society.

Grant Schneider - that happens to me.  Often.

Brian England - I can understand that but sometimes I find I can find out a bit more about the choices of quotes one chooses.  Especially over time as I read those they select.

Ed Silva - deliberate?  Who me?  Go ahead, have a second cup.

Bill Salvatore - YVP Blog - I took a second look and then a third, I still don't see it.  You must be hungry.

Joan Cox - sure.  I am glad to hear you enjoyed them.

Michael,

This is another one of your thought provoking quotes.  Oscar Wilde's quote reminds of "Mini Me".  Marlena Dietrich's words are true also.  My parents loved her, and once when they were in San Francisco at the same time we were working there, we found out she was perfoming on Nob Hill at the Fairmont hotel there.  We bought tickets and really enjoyed her performance.  It was an intimate setting and she was lovely!  I definitely digressed!  A

I too enjoy quotes (duh). I use them every day, to inspire, open up conversations and enjoy. What I admire about you, is your ability for dissecting each thought and changing my perspective Michael Jacobs

Nina Hollander, Broker - so many quotes need context but it is fun when you find one that "fits" right for you.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - The Fairmont is one of my favorite San Francisco places.  Its location and the ambiance.  Those things and much more.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS  - and you have a talent for matching quote and photo to create ponder-worthy statements.

Hi Michael! Love all of the quotes but, found Wilde's quote very fitting for this forum! When we find ourselves copied by others day in and day out, however, it can become a little maddening!

I am big on giving members who are either newbies or rarely post, kudos for their listings/sales throughout the week. Sadly, I notice a lot of similar identical comments on every single listing/sale that I go to. Today, Memorial Day, is no different. Mimicry hits close to home on this forum...in more ways than one!

Hi Michael- I have to wonder or ponder...does the person saying the quotable line know that the line is worthy of being a quote???

Roy Kelley - I have a feeling that it will be good sleep tonight - the day has been tiring but fulfilling.  So that's good.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - interesting observation.  I don't always have the opportunity to see/read each and every comment on a post I leave a comment but I do look at trends over time with who is commenting, what they may say and how it is communicated.  Why and when enter the thought process as well.  Not each and every time - kinda anecdotally though.

Kathy Streib - yes, that's definitely ponder-worthy.  Did I really say that?  And what was the occasion or the circumstances???  Yes, ponder-worthy indeed.

Sharon Tara - it can be a challenge, a game and a puzzle finding the right quote or a series of them.  Sometimes it's all three wrapped into one neat package.

Michael Jacobs - To everything there is a purpose and that goes for quotes too. When I try to read something that is overdosed with quotes it makes me seasick and hungry for content.
