Upcoming sale may include these weapons!  Huh?  What'd you say?

Well, actually these are hatpins and they were so popular with ladies in the past.  They were used to hold the hair in place or the hat in place to begin with.  BUT....read a bit of their history and you will be amazed as I was.

Those ladies learned that they could be used for protection.  If unwelcome passes were made or if danger was present, the lady could just reach up to the hairpin, jerk it out and use it to thwart the villain.  Ladies became so good at protecting themselves with the hairpins that the authorities decided they should limit the length of the hairpins!  See in this holder that there are long ones and shorter ones!

So, folks, research the history of hairpins and decide they are definitely collectible and attend the estate sale this weekend.  See other wonderful things to sell by going to estatesales.net and see all the items.

That photo brought back an ancient memory.  I had a neighbor who had a similar collection of hat pins when I was a kid!

Hello Barbara - sometimes I wonder if some things may have unintended consequences when originally conceived or  if there is a far greater master-plan thought process.

Very interesting!  I had no idea about hair pins being used as weapons but it makes perfect sense.  Even the shorter ones could probably be deadly, if need be.   Thanks for this very informative post.

Thanks for the comment, Mickey.  I'd hate to have one aimed at me!
