Kentlands/Quince Orchard Neighborhood Hydrant Flushing
Many of you were sent a letter in the mail letting you know about the upcoming fire hydrant flushing in your neighborhood, which is scheduled to begin this coming Monday, June 7, 2021.
The work, called unidirectional flushing, is a proactive method of cleaning water pipes to improve water quality and restore capacity in your neighborhood. This type of flushing reduces sediment and loose deposits.
The flushing will all take place overnight, between the hours of 10pm-6am starting on Monday, June 7, 2021 through August 9, 2021.
During those overnight hours, you may see WSSC Water technicians opening and closing valves and fire hydrants. Customers could experience discoloration during and after the flushing.
To help with discoloration, open the cold-water in your home or business using the following steps: • Run all cold-water taps for about five minutes or until the water runs clear. • Begin with the lowest faucet in your home or business and then open the other faucets one at a time, moving from your lowest floor to your highest. • Once the water runs clear, usually in fewer than five minutes, turn off your faucets in the same order, lowest to highest.
If the discolored water persists after running your cold-water lines for five minutes, please call our Emergency Call Center at 301-206-4002 or emergencycallcenter@wsscwater.com any time 24/7.
I’ve included a link to the map of the area where the flushing will be taking place. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1aEAUEdC1VETaNRQ9TjZ-qq1Ag6PvhMTc&usp=sharing
