Building a New Home: Steps in Building a Home

This is a checklist for steps in building a home.  I will provide more details in separate sections to clarify and define each steps in further detail.  For now, here are the basics.

  • Lot size and slope
  • Footings, Foundations and Basements
  • Flooring depending on number of levels and stairways
  • Framing, walls and roofing
  • Exterior finish
  • Windows and Doors, types and density
  • Fireplaces, types for looks or heating
  • Garage, sizing and dimensions
  • Plumbing and Electrical, rough in to bathroom finish
  • Heating and Cooling, including insulation
  • Wall coverings and paint
  • Cabinetry and trim, match interior wood and finish
  • Flooring coverings including tiles, wood and carpeting
  • Workspace, Basement and Storage
  • Electrical outlets in the Garage (can't have too many)
  • Pre-wiring for surround sound and motion detectors in designated areas
